Inspection of Marmadukes Abbey Kids Club 32 Sutton Road, Erdington, Birmingham, West Midlands B23 6QL

p.1

This provision meets requirements

Children are very happy at the club. They form strong relationships with their friends. Children are kind and caring to each other and include others in their chosen games. For example, during a game of bingo, they help each other find the right number on their cards. Younger children are confident and respectful when speaking to visitors. They excitedly introduce themselves and their friends and speak about the game they are playing. This helps embed their communication and language skills and assures their emotional well-being.

This provision meets requirements

Staff have high expectations of children's behaviour. They provide lots of praise and encouragement, and reward children when they succeed in an activity. Children listen carefully and follow instructions during activities. They wait patiently for their turn, making sure everyone is included. They enthusiastically join in with physical activities and exercises outdoors, which helps develop their strength and perseverance. For example, children run and jump to the different shapes marked on the playground when these are called out by staff. This helps to develop their physical skills and embed mathematical language.

This helps build strong relationships between children and the adults caring for them. n Partnerships with staff from the on-site school are good. Information about children is shared daily between the club and the school during handover. This helps new children settle quickly when they first attend because staff understand and respond to their needs. Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Leaders and managers understand their responsibilities to keep children safe. All staff have attended recent training to update their knowledge of safeguarding procedures. They are aware of the signs and symptoms which indicate a child may be at risk of harm. They understand how to report any child protection concerns, including if there is an allegation against any person working with children. Sound recruitment procedures ensure that staff are checked for their suitability to work with children. A daily risk assessment of the whole environment ensures that the premises are safe for children.
