The child who lives in the home has lived there for a long time. She has made progress in all areas of her life because staff invest in her progress and provide good-quality care. The child informed the inspectors that she is happy living in the home and has good relationships with the staff. A staff member said, ‘Our compassionate approach to care means we are devoted to providing unconditional support to each child in our care.’

The inspectors spent time with the child and observed warm and nurturing support between the child and staff. The model of care is embedded into practice and reflected in the child’s plans.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Effective care planning by staff means that the child receives personalised individual care centred around meeting her needs. p.3

Staff take time to plan and talk about topics that are important to the child, for example the importance of healthy relationships and identity. These discussions allow staff to reiterate the importance of keeping safe in relationships and support the child with their identify.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The child knows how to raise concerns. The child told the inspector she talks to the manager when she is unhappy. Grumbles are responded to and acted on swiftly before they become a complaint. There have not been any complaints raised in this inspection period.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The home is clean and tidy. Some areas of the home require redecoration. The registered manager plans to paint the kitchen and has a home development plan in place to monitor progress. Inspection report for children’s home: 2603750 4
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
The child is safe and protected from harm. Staff understand the potential risks that could place her in harm’s way. The child is comfortable and cared for by a consistent staff team that is skilled and knowledgeable.
p.4
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Clear risk management plans identify the triggers to behaviour and outline the actions that staff need to take to support the child. However, risk has significantly reduced over time and the child rarely displays behaviour that challenges. As a result, staff have only used low level physical intervention on two occasions since the last inspection.
p.4
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Staff promote positive behaviour and offer praise and rewards. This recognition by staff increases confidence and motivates the child to behave in a socially acceptable manner. The child understands what is expected of her and incidents of self-harm have significantly reduced.
p.4
