p.1

The provision is good

Children demonstrate close bonds with the kind and nurturing childminder. They draw a sense of confidence from her and are welcoming to any visitors she approves of. Children settle well. The childminder gathers important information from parents when children first start to attend in order to ensure that their needs are met. Children make choices about what they would like to play with and are enthusiastic learners. They independently select from a wide range of resources available. Children understand the high expectations that the childminder has for them. They welcome her eagerly into their play and remember to say 'please' and 'thank you' as she hands them resources. Children are aware of the rules and boundaries and behave very well.

p.2

The provision is good

Overall, children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder uses children's developing interests to motivate them and make their learning memorable. For example, as children share books about animals, they recall finding newts while walking in the nearby fields. They discuss how they had to hide them under logs to protect them from 'predators'. Opportunities such as these help children to consolidate and build on their learning over time.

p.2

need to do better?

n Since her last inspection, the childminder has developed a broad and balanced curriculum. Overall, she understands how to sequence children's learning in order for them to make progress. However, occasionally, the childminder offers her support a little too quickly and does not consistently give children time to demonstrate what they already know, so that she may build upon their learning even more precisely. n Children's communication and language are a high priority for the childminder. She recognises that some children may need a little extra help and subsequently provides plentiful opportunities for children to engage in meaningful conversations with her. Furthermore, she has undertaken additional training to develop her repertoire of communication strategies. She talks to children about what she observes them doing and carefully pronounces new vocabulary to help to extend their communication skills.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder knows what children need to learn next and adapts her teaching according to the activities children choose. For example, interest in a superhero cave leads to the sorting of different superheroes according to their different characteristics. Children count and compare the size of the different groups. They become engrossed and develop their understanding of mathematical concepts through play. n Children enjoy a wide range of outdoor opportunities. They share how they enjoy trips to the park and local fields with the childminder. Outings to places

need to do better?

18 May 2023 such as the local library allow children to develop an appreciation of the diverse community in which they live. Children learn about different cultures and meet people of different ages. This helps to prepare children for life in modern Britain. n The childminder is passionate about her role and is eager to offer the best possible experiences for children and their families. She regularly evaluates her practice, taking into account the views of parents, children and local authority advisors in order to make positive changes. n The childminder develops close links with parents and regularly shares information with them on their child's progress. She provides information on a range of child development topics, such as the use of dummies and toilet training. The childminder ensures that parents understand how they can support their child's learning further at home. That said, links with any other settings

Safeguarding

The childminder attends regular safeguarding training in order to keep her knowledge up to date. She can recognise the different signs of possible abuse. The childminder understands how to report any concerns she may have about a child's welfare to the relevant authorities. Furthermore, she understands the action to take should an allegation be made against herself or a family member. She undertakes daily risk assessments, along with regular reviews of policies, such as for the administration of medication. This helps to ensure that procedures are robust and help to keep children safe.
