p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children do not develop a clear understanding of boundaries and rules, such as expectations around sharing toys and resources during play. When there are sharing issues, the childminder struggles to identify appropriate strategies to deal with the situation. The environment becomes disorganised and noisy, resulting in disruptions to children's play.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children's progress is not assured, as curriculum planning is weak and lacks focus. Babies do not always have sufficient space to explore physical skills such as walking. At times, there are too many toys left untidied on the floor, limiting the space available for them to move around safely. While there are some books available for children to choose from, there is little stimulation for them to make use of these resources.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children do not have consistent opportunities to build on their communication and language skills. For example, the childminder points to a picture and asks older children, 'What is this?' Children say, 'It is an elephant.' While children recall what they already know, there are little opportunities for them to learn more. Children are not prepared well for future learning.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Young children cuddle in the childminder's arms and they smile, showing they are happy. The childminder shares information with parents regarding young children's attachments and works in partnership with them to settle children in. This helps to support young children's emotional well-being.

need to do better?
n The childminder does not demonstrate a secure understanding of the requirements of the 'Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage'. This has resulted in breaches of both the learning and development and safeguarding and welfare requirements. These weaknesses have a significant impact on children's learning and care. n Further, self-evaluation is ineffective. The childminder has not made sufficient improvements to meet previous actions. She does not maintain a daily record of the hours of attendance of all children in her care. She does not ensure that she maintains the required information for each child that attends. These weaknesses have led to repeated breaches of the safeguarding and welfare requirements. n The childminder has not maintained her knowledge of the areas of children's learning and how they learn at different stages of their development. She has not prioritised training needs sufficiently to ensure she is equipped to deliver her

need to do better?
26 April 2023 n The childminder shares some useful information with parents to get to know children's backgrounds. She supports visits from professionals who work with children and their families. However, she has not developed effective processes to assess, and plan for, individual children's progress from their starting points. She demonstrates little understanding of how to develop an ambitious curriculum that is sequenced well and supports individual children's progress over a period of time. n The childminder demonstrates some understanding of the importance of sharing information with other settings that children attend. She knows when children are introduced to letters of the alphabet at the nursery they attend. While she joins in with older children who sing the alphabet song, she does not use these opportunities to challenge and extend children's learning further. n The childminder does not organise the resources well enough to support

children's independent choices. For example, some resources in the role play area are left in piles, which makes it difficult for young babies to access them. Nevertheless, she supports children to learn to develop routines such as using the toilet independently. Parents state that their children learn to use the cutlery at mealtimes. n The childminder provides some opportunities for children to build on their literacy and mathematical skills. She provides a matching game for older children and shows younger children how to stack cups of different sizes. However, she does not stimulate their learning well enough to sustain their interest during these activities. n The childminder provides regular opportunities for children to exercise in the fresh air, for example during walks in the locality and visits to the park. She provides opportunities for children to meet others in the community, for example during visits to the library.
p.3
need to do better?
n The childminder moves around with children to supervise them, for example when they move to a table-based activity. However, she does not provide consistent messages for children to understand why some behaviour, such as standing on the chair, may be unsafe.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has a basic understanding of how to identify and refer concerns for children's welfare and the procedures to follow in the event of an allegation. However, safeguarding training is insufficient. The childminder has improved her knowledge of the 'Prevent' duty guidance, however she does not have up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding issues such as cuckooing and county lines. The childminder does not ensure people who come in direct contact with children are vetted and their suitability assured. She does not carry out effective risk assessments to ensure a safe environment for children's learning and care.
