p.1

The provision is good

Children are very happy in their bright and engaging environment. They have access to a wide variety of role-play resources that support their imaginative play. For example, the children enjoy pretending to be doctors and dress up in the costumes available. The childminder supports children with their behaviour by playing games such as bingo, which the children thoroughly enjoy and which enable them to practise taking turns and sharing. While children play, they hold discussions with the childminder and ask questions, which supports their speaking and listening skills. For example, the children play a game with the theme of 'under the sea' and ask questions about where the animals live. During the day, children explore the outdoors through using the childminder's garden or visiting the local park where they can develop their physical skills.

p.2

The provision is good

Children understand their daily routine and are confident to ask for support when they need to. The childminder provides an excellent home-from-home experience, while still ensuring that children are learning important independence skills. For example, the children help to tidy away their activities and prepare their table ready for mealtimes. Children have a lovely close bond with the childminder and are comforted by her support and care. During story time, they sit in the cosy reading area and read a story as a group. They enjoy having their turn to sit next to the childminder.

n The childminder is passionate about the environment and puts a great deal of thought and care into the children's learning. She regularly reflects on the children's needs and interests and plans according to these. Children have their own playroom in the house and confidently ask for the toys they want to play with. n Partnership with parents is very effective. Parents speak highly of the childminder and say she is caring, conscientious and trustworthy. One parent said, 'My child's development and language has come on leaps and bounds.' Parents state that they 'couldn't be happier' with their choice of childcare. Parents are happy with communication, receiving photos of their children and talking to the childminder at the end of the day. n Children enjoy using the different areas in the room, such as the home corner and the reading area. They select their own books from the reading area, which contains a wide variety of books to support their knowledge of the wider world

and other communities and cultures. The childminder understands the importance of reading for enjoyment. She regularly adds to the books and reading materials available to reflect children's interests. 27 April 2023 their friends and the childminder. n Overall, children display good social skills and are kind to each other. The childminder teaches children how to behave appropriately and offers gentle reminders when needed. However, she is less consistent in reinforcing positive behaviours to encourage children to choose to do the right thing. n Children enjoy songs and rhymes through adult-led activities. The childminder plays games using a 'feely bag' with different objects inside, which the children can choose and then think of a nursery rhyme. The children giggle and sing along happily while developing their speaking skills. n The childminder ensures that children have a rich set of experiences and understanding of events and celebrations during the year. Children celebrate events such as the King's Coronation, Chinese New Year and Diwali through fun and engaging activities. For example, the children were looking forward to

throwing a party for the King's Coronation and were excited by the decorations. n The childminder ensures that children learn new skills and have regular opportunities to develop them. This allows the children to master each skill and demonstrate what they have learned over time. For example, the children are confident at using scissors at an age-appropriate level, ranging from making small snips to cutting out a picture.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a suitable knowledge of the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of abuse or neglect. She understands the process to follow to report any concerns that arise, and she knows when issues should be raised with parents. The childminder continually assesses and manages risk in her home to create a safe environment for children. In addition, she teaches children how to keep themselves safe, for example when carrying scissors.
