Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
The care of children
Children have good relationships with the staff who care for them. Staff invest time in children. They listen to them, protect them and promote their welfare. Children can name trusted adults who they can speak to if they have any worries. As a result, children have developed a sense of permanence and belonging.
p.2
The care of children
Children who are new to the home are always welcomed sensitively and with the best possible planning. There is a robust referral process which is used to assess the needs of the children who already live in the home. This process also considers children’s needs and any additional risks when new children come to live in the home. This ensures that there is a child-centred approach when making decisions about whether children’s needs can be met in the same home.
p.2
The care of children
The child does not currently attend school. The manager is actively supporting an ongoing search to identify a suitable school placement. Educational activity is supported by the staff throughout the day. They use this as an opportunity to carry out direct-work sessions with the child around relevant topics, such as drugs misuse and knife crime.

p.2
The safety of children
Risk assessments and behaviour support plans are detailed, and staff understand the individual risks for the child. The manager and staff review and update these frequently. The risk assessments and plans are also reviewed following any significant events to ensure that they include current information for each child and provide staff with clear strategies to mitigate risks.
p.2
The safety of children
When children go missing from care, there are clear and comprehensive plans in place for staff to follow. The staff are proactive in their responses when children are missing from the home, which means that they are often quickly located. The manager and staff work collaboratively with external professionals, such as the local police and missing-from-home team, to ensure well-coordinated responses when children do go missing from the home.
