p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

The care of children

The home is comfortable and homely. Children’s bedrooms are personalised and there are photos of the children throughout the home.

p.2

The care of children

Children have lots of opportunities to have their voices heard. They can speak to staff or the manager. Children know how to make a complaint and when they do, their complaints are taken seriously. Children say that they trust staff.

p.2

The care of children

Staff do communicate with partner agencies, but this is not always consistent. On one occasion, children told education staff of events that happened before they were informed by staff at the home.

p.2

The safety of children

The children have risk assessments in place and staff have read them and are aware of the children’s risks. This helps keep children safe.

p.2

The safety of children

There are individual behaviour management plans in place for children. However, staff have struggled to manage some of the children’s behaviour. Staff have used incentives to try and encourage good behaviour.

p.2

The safety of children

Staff have completed basic safeguarding training. However, some staff have not completed all the company’s mandatory training, which compromises their ability to recognise every risk the children may be subject to.

p.2

The effectiveness of leaders and managers

The registered manager has not been present in the home for several months and the home has been managed by another manager who works for the company.

p.2

The effectiveness of leaders and managers

Leaders and managers have responded effectively to the requirements and recommendations set at the last inspection and practice has improved.

p.2

The effectiveness of leaders and managers

Staff have received regular supervision. However, not all supervision records demonstrate that staff have the opportunity to reflect on the children and their behaviours, which means that they are missing learning opportunities. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2593261 3
