This provision does not meet requirements

The childminder does not recognise hazards or take sufficient steps to reduce all potential risks to children. As a result, risk assessments are ineffective and risks remain present inside the childminder's home. For instance, the childminder fails to ensure that hazardous materials are safely stored away from children.

p.2

This provision does not meet requirements

The childminder does not manage the cleaning arrangements related to the care of pets well enough. For instance, rabbit faeces are present in areas accessed by the children. Children's good health is not successfully promoted. Insufficient steps are taken by the childminder to reduce the risks of illness or infections. For example, the childminder does not help children to understand and manage their self-care and basic personal hygiene.

This provision does not meet requirements

Nonetheless, children are happy during their time at the childminder's. The childminder acknowledges the importance of allowing children time to wind down following a full day at school. For example, children sit together and relax while watching television. This helps children to rest and recuperate after a busy day.

need to do better?

n The childminder does not maintain a fully safe environment for children. She fails to identify and minimise risks to children. For example, cleaning products and toilet brushes are left within children's reach in the toilet area. This poses a danger to children's health. n Hygiene arrangements are not fully implemented. The childminder does not clean or remove cat litter trays which contain rabbit faeces. She does not check all the areas that are used by children to ensure that they are clean and safe. For example, rabbit faeces are present in the conservatory area, which is the main room used by children. n Handwashing routines for children are not embedded. For example, the childminder does not encourage children to wash their hands before eating. Children are not supported to know when to wash their hands or the importance of doing so. n Children have positive relationships with the childminder. The childminder takes

an interest in what children have been doing at school. Children enthusiastically and proudly tell her about a story that they have written in class. n Children have healthy snacks provided by the childminder. For example, the childminder provides fruit daily and children have access to drinking water. n The childminder teaches children about road safety. When walking back from school, children know the expectations. For example, children walk alongside the childminder and know to stay together and not to wander off.

24 March 2023 n Children behave well. The childminder explains that she promotes positive behaviour through good role modelling and talking about rules and boundaries. n The childminder has close partnerships with parents. She obtains information about children's individual needs, such as health and dietary requirements. The childminder shares information about how children have been and passes on information from the school. n Parents speak highly of the childminder. They say, 'she is amazing,' and 'like a second mum'. Parents report that older sibling children have also attended at the childminder's. Parents say that children enjoy attending the setting and feel the childminder meets children's individual needs well. n The childminder provides children with opportunities to access activities in the local community. For example, during the school holidays they go on outings to the cinema, bowling and to local parks.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder updates her knowledge and skills. For example, she gains support from other local childminders. They regularly share information, such as updates around local safeguarding procedures. The childminder attends mandatory training, such as safeguarding and paediatric first aid.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Weaknesses in the childminder's risk assessments and hygiene routines mean that the safety and health of children cannot be fully assured. The childminder does not acknowledge the potential risks to children from the accessible cleaning products, rabbit faeces and lack of hand hygiene. The childminder can identify the different types of safeguarding concerns and how to respond to these. She knows the local reporting procedures, including who to contact if an allegation is made against herself or a member of the household. The childminder can identify indicators relating to extremist behaviours and what action to take should she have concerns about this.
