This provision meets requirements
Children make choices and freely talk about what they have chosen to play with first. They demonstrate good relationships with the childminder and talk to her as they play. Children answer questions about their day at nursery. For example, they talk about learning all about the 'number three' and what they had for lunch. Children talk about activities that they have done before with the childminder, such as visits to the local parks and places of local interest. They also talk about their friends who also come to the setting.

n Children enjoy quiet time at the end of their busy day. They sit close by the childminder and share stories and look at books. Children are confident and handle books well, saying, 'I can read a book myself'. The childminder supports children's confidence by sitting back, listening and giving them time to read to her. n Partnerships with parents are good. Parents speak very positively about the way the childminder works sensitively with their children. For example, they talk about the specific activities that the childminder does that link directly to their children's learning at nursery. Parents say how fond their children are of the childminder and that they love coming. n The childminder complements children's learning at nursery. For instance, she introduces and explains the meaning of new words, such as 'repel.' The childminder then further explains to children that the magnets on the trains 'repel' each other. She also teaches children new skills, such as looking for the

corner pieces as they complete a jigsaw together and helping children to learn the difference between numerals, such as 'six' and 'nine'. n The childminder keeps up to date with developments in early years through newsletters and other information available to her through the local authority. n The childminder generally supports children's play and activities well. However, sometimes she makes too many suggestions in quick succession about different activities that children may enjoy. This means that children do not always maintain concentration to play for longer periods.

21 March 2023 n The childminder listens carefully to what children are saying. For example, children talk about resources that they want to play with. The childminder writes down what children are saying so that she can find these resources for the next time. n Children use a wide range of vocabulary as they explain their thoughts and feelings about past experiences. For example, they say that, 'I don't even like the noises from the fireworks' and talk about events that were 'a long time ago'. n The childminder has high expectations for children's behaviour. Children demonstrate a positive attitude as they follow routines and boundaries. For example, they join in with tidying away resources after they have finished playing with them. n Children are independent and are proud to show what they can do. For example, they take off their own coats and shoes as they arrive, telling the childminder that they can now do this by themselves. Children know where things belong

Safeguarding
The childminder is aware of potential risks to children's safety and well-being. She can describe what would concern her about a child's welfare. The childminder is clear about the procedure to follow if she had any such concerns in line with the local authority's safeguarding reporting procedures. She also knows what to do in the event that a complaint is raised against her or a member of her household.
