This monitoring visit
Staff have received extensive training since the full inspection, including in managing behaviour, safeguarding, autism spectrum disorder and sensory awareness, and first aid. There are plans to further develop the team’s recording and reporting skills. A new training matrix has been implemented by the manager and leaders. This increases the manager’s capacity to track staff development and ensure the needs of children are met. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 2591911 2 Managers have also enhanced staff supervision to incorporate reflective practice and discussions on learning from incidents. As a result, staff have the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the children. Supervision is now also used as an opportunity to reflect, build on existing skills and constantly develop care practice.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have increased their oversight of incidents. The quality of written reports has significantly improved. They have the required clarity, contain all the required information and capture lessons learned to reduce the risk of a reoccurrence. The language used in the reports is child-centred and nurturing. Debriefs are carried out with children and staff so that any learning to prevent further incidents can be identified. This process also ensures that any shortfalls in practice can be addressed.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have worked to improve safeguarding practice. They have introduced new risk assessments in line with children’s individual behaviour support plans. These now provide clear and detailed information about the nature and level of risk. Risk assessments are regularly updated and shared with relevant professionals. Managers ensure that staff read and understand any changes to children’s assessments and plans. This helps staff to keep children safe.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff are now following missing-from-care protocols if children go missing. There has been one occasion when a child was missing for a prolonged period. During this time, staff attempted to keep in contact with the child. There was regular communication with family members and relevant external professionals. Detailed records were kept of all actions taken to locate the child and support him to come home. When the child returned home, managers ensured that the child spoke to a professional. These changes in practice show the commitment of the manager and staff to fulfil their safeguarding responsibilities when children are away from the home.

This monitoring visit
Safer medication systems have been implemented to dispose of medication correctly when no longer required. All staff are trained in medication and have undertaken a competency assessment. Medication is now clearly labelled, stored correctly, checked and administered by two staff members, ensuring practice is safe. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: 2591911 3
