p.1
The provision is good
Children enjoy attending this warm and friendly setting. They settle quickly due to the caring interactions from the childminder. In this setting, children develop good relationships with the childminder and their peers. Children are provided with a wide range of activities, toys and resources, which cover all areas of learning. This helps children to remain interested in activities of their own choosing. There are clear and high expectations for children's behaviour, and this helps them to behave well.
p.2
The provision is good
Children who speak English as an additional language learn new vocabulary quickly. The childminder supports children while they play by naming and labelling objects. Children's language skills are further supported by the childminder who helps them develop an enjoyment for reading and singing songs. She provides regular story and rhyme times, which are engaging, motivating and fun.
p.2
The provision is good
Children benefit from a curriculum that is well planned and ambitious, overall. They enjoy taking part in well-resourced crafting activities. Children are also provided with plenty of opportunities to be physically active, including activities that strengthen their small- and large-muscle skills in the garden. The childminder encourages children to put on their own coat and shoes before going outside. Children make their needs known. For example, they ask to use the toilet and wash their hands following a messy-play activity. This supports them to be more independent, and they learn to keep themselves healthy and safe.

need to do better?
14 March 2023 n Children benefit from well-resourced, adult-led activities. However, these do not always fully engage children as the childminder does not always have a clear intention for learning. For example, when making gingerbread biscuits, children become easily distracted and rely heavily on the childminder to complete each task, such as pouring, scooping and mixing. n The childminder has high expectations of children's behaviour. Children are friendly and kind to each other. They are well mannered and ask politely for fruit at snack time and to use the toilet when needed. Children also learn about brushing their teeth and oral health. Children generally show high levels of concentration during free play. They show curiosity when exploring activities in the learning environment. n The childminder has a good system for assessing children's learning. She talks confidently about children's starting points and the next steps for their learning.
p.2
need to do better?
The childminder uses a range of assessment tools to support her in making judgements about children's learning. She also completes progress checks for children turning two years old. n The childminder reflects on her practice by regularly asking for feedback from parents. She regularly attends training in her local area and has recently undertaken a course to further develop her work with children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. She can identify how to change and adapt activities to further support children's learning. This helps her to improve her teaching of the curriculum for all children.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder understands her role to keep children safe and healthy. She can confidently talk about the signs of child abuse. She keeps up to date with changes in child protection legislation and guidance by attending regular training. The childminder knows the procedure to follow to report concerns. She also has a good understanding of reporting allegations to the relevant designated officer in the local authority. The childminder talks confidently about wider safeguarding issues, including the signs of female genital mutilation and faith-based beliefs.
