There is currently one child living in the home. The child has made clear and measurable progress from their starting point. In relation to this, the child said, ‘I feel more understood, staff spend time with me and understand my needs and wants. I am now much better at managing my anger.’
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
Staff have supported the child to access a new education provision. This has enabled the child to complete a course of their choosing. Consequently, the child has made significant progress in their attendance and attainment in education.
p.3

The child is supported by staff to maintain important family relationships. This has progressed, and the child is now able to have regular overnight stays with family members. This promotes the child’s sense of family identity.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
Staff carry out regular direct-work sessions with the child to develop their independent living skills. The child is now able to cook, clean and travel independently on public transport. Staff have clear plans in place to develop the child’s independence skills further, in preparation for adulthood.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The child benefits from living in a warm and welcoming home environment. The home has a spacious kitchen dining area where the child spends time cooking with staff. In addition, a new bathroom has been added to the home. This meets a requirement set at the last inspection.
p.3

Parents and professionals are positive about the progress the child has made. One parent said, ‘[Name of child] is very happy there, they have made a lot of progress in all areas. [Name of child] is now more focused on what they want to do in life.’
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
As a result of living at the home, risks posed to the child have reduced in several areas. Clear risk management plans have been developed by staff. These plans state what risks need to be managed and detail what staff need to do to reduce these risks. As a result, staff know what is expected of them to help keep the child safe.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Staff have sought the intervention of specialist services effectively to address risk- taking behaviours displayed by the child. Well-coordinated multi-disciplinary working has enabled interventions to be implemented promptly, which has reduced the risks posed to the child.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Staff have established positive relationships with the child and have proportionate behaviour management strategies in place. When the child has displayed negative behaviours, staff have intervened proportionately and educated the child on how to Inspection report for children’s home: SC456535 4 better manage challenging situations. In relation to this, one social work manager said, ‘There is a clear reduction in reported behaviours.’
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Missing-from-home episodes are minimal. However, when they have occurred, the response from staff has been swift and effective. Staff follow clear missing-from- home protocols and actively search for the child at locations the child may go when missing. This means that the child has been found quickly, which has therefore reduced potential risks to the child in the community.
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
The home is managed by an experienced manager. The manager is dual registered and manages another home alongside this home. The manager divides her time equally between the two homes. Alongside the manager, the home is managed by a senior first line manager who is suitably experienced.
p.4

The manager understands the strengths and weaknesses of the home. The manager has addressed all requirements and recommendations made at the last inspection and has plans in place to further develop the service provided in the home.
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
Managers know the child in their care well. They have a clear understanding of the child’s needs, risks and future plans. Managers advocate on behalf of the child and have provided appropriate challenge to the local authority when documentation has not been provided as required by regulation.
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
Staff are positive about working in the home and are complimentary about the support provided by the management team. In relation to the managers, one staff member said, ‘They are the best managers I have ever had. They are so approachable, helpful, supportive and accommodating.’
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
Staff receive regular supervision and report that they benefit from the sessions they have with managers. However, supervision does not explore actions set at the previous supervision session. This means that there is a risk of drift and delay. A recommendation is made to address this. Inspection report for children’s home: SC456535 5
