Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2692580 1 Sure Steps Support Services Limited
p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This home is run by a private organisation. It is registered to provide care for up to two children who may experience social or emotional difficulties.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager left his post in January 2023. There is currently no manager in post.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 10 and 11 January 2023. An urgent case review was held, which resulted in a notice restricting accommodation being issued. A compliance notice was also issued under Section 22a of the Care Standards Act 2000. This related to regulation 13 (the leadership and management standard).
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit took place to assess the provider’s compliance with the notice restricting accommodation and to assess the progress made to meet the steps in the compliance notice.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The provider has complied with the notice restricting accommodation. The child living at the home at the time of the last inspection has moved to a new home and no new children have moved in.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There are several staff vacancies, including a manager and deputy manager. Since the last inspection, the responsible individual has submitted his resignation and is due to leave the company in April 2023.
p.1
This monitoring visit
There is not a core team in place to provide sufficient and consistent care for the child. Since the last inspection, two members of staff have left. There are now only two staff members in post, who are unqualified, and they are now working in another home owned by the provider. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2692580 2 There are continued shortfalls in relation to the provider’s monitoring and oversight of records. The provider has missed opportunities to identify and address shortfalls in practice. Furthermore, they do not have a clear overview of events and have failed to identify any potential learning to improve practices in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Failure to monitor standards effectively or act when concerns are identified means that poor practice and poor standards of care continue. Children do not receive a good standard of care that protects them and keeps them safe.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have failed to evidence that they have reflected on previous shortfalls or that they understand their responsibilities in improving practice.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Following this visit, a case review was held. It was decided that the compliance notice has not been met and the notice restricting accommodation remains in place. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2692580 3
