The provision is good
Children are settled and content in the childminder's care. They form strong bonds with her, turning to her for support and comfort when they need to. This helps them to feel safe and protected. Children happily play on their own and with others. These are key focuses of the childminder's curriculum, which has a positive impact on children's personal, social and emotional development. Children receive a range of experiences and freely explore all learning areas and engage with sustained concentration. The activities are easily accessible so that children can make choices and initiate their own play. For example, children access construction materials to build scenery for the story they have been learning about. The childminder reminds them of the storyline and children play it back.

The provision is good
Children develop a love of books and they listen intently to stories. They learn how to handle books carefully and turn pages with care. This experience is enriched further through story props. For example, children use the masks of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' to become characters. They finish off sentences as the childminder reads the story using different intonations. Children are encouraged to talk in detail about what happens in the story. This helps them gain a better understanding of characters in books.

need to do better?
n The childminder knows the children she cares for well. She is quick to recognise when children need support. Through collaborative working with parents, she supports children's development effectively. The childminder provides children with activities relevant to their age and stage of development. n The childminder speaks about her work with passion. She is a good role model and demonstrates her understanding of how young children acquire good language. She engages children in two-way conversations and encourages them to talk about what they are doing. This includes children who speak English as an additional language. The childminder purchases books in children's home languages to successfully support them at her setting. n The childminder presents exciting activities, such as 'nursery rhyme stones' that fascinate the children. For instance, she encourages children to select the song stone and join in with singing familiar songs, such as 'Wind the Bobbin Up' and

'Old McDonald.' Children clap with excitement to indicate their joy of singing. n The childminder successfully promotes the development of children's small- muscle skills. For example, she provides a variety of opportunities such as tweezers and bowls in a tray with colour-coordinated sorting resources. Children use bricks to connect and disconnect pieces, as well as building enclosures. They are encouraged to take notice of what they are making. The childminder offers ideas to extend their play, and supports their imagination well.

need to do better?
23 February 2023 n Overall, the childminder knows that the children in her care make good progress. She shares good examples of areas where children have made progress. However, she has not considered further ways of challenging children to extend their skills to help them make even better progress. n Parents are happy with the care the childminder provides. They find her to be kind and compassionate. Parents receive regular feedback and updates about what their children have done during the day. n The childminder has high expectations for all children in her care. She has a calm approach to behaviour, giving gentle reminders about being kind to each other. Children are encouraged to take turns and are polite and use 'please' and 'thank you' when asking for things they would like. Children follow the childminder's instructions well. n The childminder encourages children to be independent. She assists children

with good hygiene routines. For example, children know that they must wash their hands before meals and brush their teeth after lunch. Children skilfully and confidently pour water from a jug into their cups. n The childminder reflects on the provision she offers. She enhances children's experiences by taking them to various outings and to meet up with other local childminders and the children they care for. They attend playgroups together. This helps children to build on their social interactions with others.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has a sound understanding of her role in keeping children safe. She regularly completes training to ensure she has secure knowledge of current practice, and the signs and behaviours that may cause concern regarding children's well-being. She maintains a good understanding of the procedures to follow should she need to report concerns about the welfare of a child. This includes wider aspects of child protection such as the 'Prevent' duty and female genital mutilation. The childminder carries out risk assessments of the premises to ensure children are cared for in a safe and secure environment.
