p.1
The provision is inadequate
The childminder lacks knowledge and understanding of her roles and responsibilities. This results in significant breaches of the statutory requirements that compromise children's safety and well-being. Despite this, children are happy as they enter the childminder's home and enjoy exploring the toys, such as balls and doll's houses.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
Children have the language skills to communicate their needs effectively. The childminder repeats simple words to help children to learn new vocabulary. Children babble with excitement and enjoy trying to repeat simple phrases, such as 'ready, steady, go!'. This particularly helps those children who may be learning more than one language. However, the childminder does not have up-to-date knowledge of the early years foundation stage curriculum (EYFS). This means that the childminder does not plan a well-thought out, sequenced curriculum for children. As a result, at times, children's learning is incidental rather than appropriately planned.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The childminder uses age-appropriate strategies to support children's positive behaviour. However, at times, the childminder does not fully prepare children for the transition between one activity and the next. This means that, at times, some children struggle with their emotions as they do not understand when an activity has finished. Despite this, children behave well and happily explore the experiences, such as pouring sand in the garden.
p.2
need to do better?
n Risk assessments are ineffective. The childminder does not complete thorough enough risk assessments of her environment. For example, she fails to remove broken equipment in the garden. In addition, dangerous tools and unsecured highly stacked shelving are accessible to children. This jeopardises children's safety and well-being. n The childminder is not proactive in keeping her knowledge up to date and does not understand her roles and responsibilities. This has a negative impact on her ability to evaluate her provision. As a result, there are a number of breaches of statutory requirements. For example, the childminder does not hold a valid paediatric first-aid certificate. However, she can explain what she would do in some circumstances if a child was hurt or became ill. n The childminder fails to access appropriate professional development opportunities, such as relevant training. As a result, weaknesses within her

provision go unidentified and her practice does not improve over time. This negatively impacts on children's care and education. n The childminder offers children healthy meals while in her care. For example,

13 February 2023 she recognises the importance of offering them a nutritionally balanced lunch. However, current food storage facilities are not hygienic and food is not stored appropriately. This does not minimise the cross-contamination of foods for those children with specific dietary requirements. n The childminder builds positive parent partnerships. Parents appreciate the daily verbal feedback about their children's care routines, such as times of nappy changes. However, the childminder does not have effective strategies to share information with parents about their children's learning. As a result, parents do not know their children's next steps in development. This does not promote home learning for children. Despite this, parents say that the childminder is friendly and approachable. n The childminder uses children's interests to plan her curriculum. For example, children happily explore new activities that include their favourite toys, such as

'Peppa Pig'. This helps children to be curious about new experiences. Children make progress in their development since starting with the childminder. n Children have positive attitudes to play and learning. They have the determination to persevere when they find something challenging. For example, children puff and pant as they try to carry large objects. The childminder enthusiastically supports them by asking them to 'give it a try'. Children smile with pride when they achieve this and build strong resilience. n Children are confident and enjoy being physically active in play. The childminder offers children daily opportunities to play outdoors to support this. For instance, children happily bounce on the trampoline and kick balls in the garden. This helps children to learn the large physical skills they need.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
Due to weaknesses in leadership and significant breaches in risk assessments, safeguarding is poor. Despite this, the childminder is knowledgeable about safeguarding issues. For instance, she knows how to spot signs and symptoms of children who may be at risk of radicalisation. The childminder knows to whom to report if she has concerns over a child's welfare or if she receives an allegation about her practice.
