p.1

The provision is good

Children arrive happily and hang up their coats independently. They explore the safe environment and play. Older children help younger children to share and take turns.

p.2

The provision is good

Children are excited to explore the outdoors, where they can be physically active and learn about the world around them. For example, they find out about where food comes from, as they visit the chickens and collect eggs. Children use the eggs when they bake together. They are eager to crack the shells and add the eggs into the mixture. When they struggle to do this, the childminder and her assistants encourage them to keep trying. Children persevere until they are successful. The childminder and her assistants talk to children about what they are doing and emphasise words, such as, mixing and stirring. Children listen carefully and follow instructions, for example, they are reminded to sit on the bench safely rather than stand.

p.2

The provision is good

Children also enjoy quieter activities, such as exploring a toy house with doors. They concentrate as they find the correctly numbered key to open a matching numbered door. Children use the strength in their fingers to hold the key and turn it and their hand-to-eye coordination as they carefully place the key into the key hole.

n The childminder and her assistants' interactions with children are, overall, sensitive and supportive. They help children to take part in activities and extend their learning. However, at times they do not notice quieter children. This means that occasionally children's learning is not fully supported. n The childminder and her assistants provide a wide range of experiences to promote children's communication and language development. They read books, sing songs and say nursery rhymes daily with the children. The childminder and her assistants speak clearly and expressively to children about the activities that they are involved in. n The childminder plans visits to her home to help new children settle well. She engages with other settings children attend and shares relevant information so that learning is consistent. Parents and carers report positively about their children's experiences with the childminder. Parents receive information about

the time children spend at the childminder's setting. 30 January 2023 research and supports her assistants with their continual professional development. She uses the information to improve practice further. n The childminder and her assistants find out what the children's interests are. They use this information to engage children and promote learning. For example, for children who enjoy making marks, they provide paper and paints. Children explore the paint creatively and enjoy the sensory experience. Children begin to understand that they can intentionally make marks. n When children are struggling to regulate their behaviour the childminder and her assistants take appropriate action to support them. For instance, when children become restless, they swiftly take them to a quieter place, where they are given time to calm down and relax. This helps children to manage their feelings. n The childminder and her assistants work together with parents and teachers to

plan a smooth transition to school for the children. Children accompany the childminder and her assistants to collect older children at the end of the school day. While waiting in the playground they meet the teachers and talk about their day, helping children to become familiar with school. n The childminder and her assistants provide stimulating resources and give children time to explore and investigate freely. However, if children find something tricky, the childminder and her assistants guide their thinking and actions. For example, when children use tools and struggle to unscrew a bolt, they say, 'I wonder if we could try a different tool?' n The childminder and her assistants provide a wide range of experiences to promote children's understanding of the world. This includes, visiting the local farm, swimming and visiting groups where children learn to socialise. n The childminder and her assistants provide a structured routine. Children know

the expectations and they are developing their independence. They know where to keep their belongings and to wash their hands before baking and mealtimes. n The childminder and her assistants recognise the need for children to have a healthy lifestyle. Children play outdoors each day, where they can run and climb to support their physical development. The childminder provides healthy home- cooked meals and snacks.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder and her assistants have a good understanding of how to protect children from harm. They understand the signs and symptoms which may indicate abuse. This includes, female genital mutilation and the 'Prevent' duty. There is a clear safeguarding policy and procedure in place to follow up any concerns and to contact the relevant professionals. The childminder and her assistants understand how to manage any allegations which may be made against them. The environment is safe and secure. The childminder and her assistants are qualified in paediatric first aid.
