p.1
The provision requires improvement
Children develop strong bonds with the childminder and her assistant. They settle quickly into her care and show they feel safe and secure. The childminder is attentive and meets children's personal care needs well. However, at times when there are large numbers of children present, the childminder and her assistant are unable to support children's learning effectively.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
The childminder's and her assistant's interactions are positive and children receive ongoing praise and encouragement. This helps to promote their self-esteem and confidence. The childminder gathers detailed information from parents about children's individual needs and routines. She uses this information to help ensure children settle in well and feel comfortable in her care. The childminder provides a home-from-home environment where children are happy in their surroundings and confidently select resources that they want to play with. However, she does not always extend and challenge children in their learning to help them to build on what they already know and can do. This means children do not always have the best opportunity to reach their full potential.
p.2
The provision requires improvement
Children enjoy daily opportunities for outdoor play and exercise. They learn to put on their coats and shoes before going outside. They have sufficient opportunity to be physically active. For example, they ride bikes and use equipment to climb up and down. Children use tools to develop their fine motor skills, such as using tweezers to pick up small objects. Furthermore, the childminder takes children on walks in the local community. Children behave well and demonstrate they understand the expectations of them. They learn and develop their self-care skills. For example, they wash their hands and manage their own clothing. However, opportunities for children to practise and further develop their independence skills are not consistently promoted by the childminder and her assistant.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder knows the children well and has a clear intent for what she wants them to learn next. However, at times when she has higher numbers of children, she is not able to meet their individual learning needs effectively. Consequently, during activities, some children are not supported well enough by the childminder to help them to build on and extend their learning further. n Overall, the childminder provides children with opportunities to develop independence skills. They learn to put on their own shoes and coats and manage self-care skills, such as wiping their nose. The childminder helps children to develop good hygiene habits, but this approach is not always fully effective. When the childminder cares for an increased number of children, she steps in quickly to complete tasks for children that they could do for themselves.
p.2
need to do better?
18 January 2023 n Children generally play well together. They take turns, share ideas and help each other during activities. Children listen to the childminder and take care of the environment. For example, they tidy away activities once they have finished playing. n Overall, the childminder interacts well with children and provides opportunities for them to ask questions and build on their thinking skills. However, at times, the environment becomes very busy and hectic and the childminder does not always give children sufficient time to think and respond to questions. This limits their opportunities to solve problems and explore their own ideas. n Children build their communication and language skills well. The childminder introduces children to new words as they play and repeats back what they say. This helps to encourage children's developing vocabulary. n The childminder has established good relationships with parents. She regularly

shares information with them about their children's day, through daily discussions, and sends them photos. The childminder works well with parents to meet children's individual care needs, for example to provide a consistent approach to toilet training. n The childminder and her assistant work well together. The childminder provides ongoing support for her assistant to develop their skills and knowledge over time. This is achieved through regular one-to-one meetings and online training.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder and her assistant complete regular training to help keep their safeguarding knowledge up to date. They have a sound knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and know how to report any concerns regarding children's welfare. Overall, the childminder checks her home and garden area to ensure the environment is safe for children. For example, she checks play equipment is safe and hygienic. Furthermore, she ensures internal doors and windows are secure.
