p.1

The provision is good

Children are very happy in the welcoming play spaces, both indoors and outdoors. They make good progress from their starting points. Children are curious learners, and they lead their own learning as they help themselves to a variety of resources. For example, during the inspection, children enjoyed using spray bottles to wash the mud off the vegetables they bought themselves. They strengthen the muscles in their hands as they pull the trigger to spray the water. Children observe the marks they make with tractor tyres and sticks in mud. The childminder extends their learning by encouraging discussions about healthy eating and where different foods come from. She recognises that children learn through repetition, and she threads this through their daily routine and activities. For example, at story time, during a healthy eating game, and as they cut up fruit at snack time.

p.2

The provision is good

Children have close relationships with the childminder, and they seek cuddles and reassurance. They know the familiar routine of the day and begin to understand rules and boundaries. Children make friendships and giggle and laugh together. They learn to take turns and negotiate and think about the impact of their behaviour on others. Children learn right from wrong, such as how to handle books with care.

n The childminder plans and provides a stimulating and broad-based curriculum, to capture the children's interests and imaginations. Children are highly involved and focused because the childminder knows them well and plans for their individual learning. The childminder consistently encourages children to 'have another go', to help build on their resilience and confidence. n Overall, children make good progress in the development of their large-muscle skills. They climb, slide and balance on apparatus. However, babies do not have consistent opportunities to further strengthen their balancing skills when learning to walk. Children thoroughly enjoy singing and dancing and move their bodies imaginatively to music. n The childminder places a strong emphasis on children's communication and language skills. She speaks clearly to the children and takes time to check their understanding. The childminder introduces new words, asks questions and

varies her voice effectively as she reads to children. This encourages them to listen attentively, ask questions and reflect on what they learn. n The childminder provides a wide range of experiences for children to build on their understanding of the world. Young children learn about themselves. For instance, they look in mirrors to observe their facial features. However, they spend less time talking about themselves and their families, to further their understanding of what makes them unique. Children enjoy tasting Chinese food

23 January 2023 as they celebrate Chinese New Year. They explore technology, for instance, as they turn knobs and push buttons, operate winches, and use magnifying glasses. n Children confidently use mathematical language during their play. They name colours and shapes and refer to items being 'big' and 'small'. As they make their sandwich, they explain that they have cut up their sandwich in half and quarters. Children develop good spatial awareness as they fill and empty containers. n The childminder has set up a well-resourced imaginative play space, where children act out storylines. Young children explore through using their senses, such as their sense of touch as they feel different materials. Children enjoy painting, drawing and sticking activities, to help develop their creativity. n Trusting partnerships with parents result in good communication, supporting children's learning and development. Parents speak highly of the childminder.

need to do better?

For example, they comment that the childminder helps their children to develop good language skills, encourages manners and helps them to be as independent as they can. Parents also comment on the value and enjoyment of trips to the park and library. n The childminder reflects on her service and identifies strengths and areas for further development. For instance, she is keen to learn more about supporting young children's mental health. Since the last inspection, the motivated childminder has enhanced partnerships with parents and other professionals involved in the children's lives. This has helped to further strengthen children's learning experiences. In addition, the childminder helps children to develop their understanding of safety when using technology.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder places a strong emphasis on keeping children safe. She attends regular safeguarding training to update her knowledge and understanding of local procedures and other safeguarding issues beyond the local community. The childminder knows what signs and symptoms to look out for and how to report any safeguarding concerns. She is fully aware of what to do if an allegation is made against her or a household member. The childminder risk assesses her premises and other environments used by the children, such as apparatus at local parks. This helps to ensure that children play in safe and secure environments. The childminder teaches children about personal safety. For example, how to cross the road and how to use tools, such as knives, safely.
