p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children make excellent progress and thrive in this calm, consistent and exceptionally nurturing environment. The childminder embeds consistent routines into the day which help children understand what happens next. For example, after lunch, they have a nap and snuggle up with a special blanket. This helps children feel safe and secure.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children have a very strong bond with the childminder. They turn to her for emotional support and help with their endeavours. They confidently share their ideas and proudly show her their achievements. The children play extremely well together, taking turns, sharing resources and respecting each other's space.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children love being helpful. They join in preparing the table and competently cut up fruit at snack time. The childminder promotes their independence skills at every opportunity. For example, children are able to wash and dry their hands and are becoming skilful at using cutlery.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children enjoy getting ready to play in the garden and excitedly choose special items to take outside. They play for a long time, maintaining intense focus as they explore and experiment with stones, balls, diggers, sand, paint and water. They enjoy rolling balls and cars down a ramp and help design a chalked track on the ground. They experiment using brushes, cloths and sticks to create different effects with paint. They fill up containers with stones, noticing differences between the sizes and the sounds the stones make when dropped into plastic or metal containers. They use binoculars and magnifying glasses to look for lost cars and spoons in the sand and water tray.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder is close by, carefully observing and monitoring what children are doing, making suggestions, challenging thinking and helping them make links in their learning.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder knows the children very well and is extremely skilful in extending the children's interests effectively and linking what they are doing to previous knowledge or experiences. For example, when children comment about different sounds, such as the sound of nearby building works and the sound of water being poured, she respects their observations and prompts children to recall how they have heard similar sounds before. n The childminder introduces new vocabulary. She repeats a new word and its meaning, which aids the children's understanding further. For example, she uses the word 'reverse' and makes the sound of a lorry 'reversing'. Children repeat

For example, children are intent on transferring stones from one container to another. When appropriate, she talks about sizes, shapes, quantities, colours and weights of the stones. Children remain curious and thoughtfully pick out the smallest stones to fall through a funnel. n The childminder ensures that children have a range of enriching and enjoyable experiences by organising trips and outings into the community. These include going for walks to the park or local woodland, going on a train ride, visiting the aquarium, the farm and the library for singing sessions. This helps children feel part of their community. n The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles by providing healthy snacks and a

balanced cooked meal at lunchtime. Children have plenty of exercise and fresh air every day. n Children's behaviour is exemplary. They are keen to learn and show perseverance and curiosity. n Children listen well and know that what they have to say is valued. The childminder speaks to the children with the greatest respect. For example, she asks them if she may change their nappy. They sing a delightful traffic light song together when doing this. n The childminder has exceptionally valuable relationships with the children's families. She achieves effective lines of communication through home visits, daily contact and by using an app, which parents can access and add to with photos and comments. Parents speak very highly of the childminder's practice and the support she gives to families. n The childminder is highly organised and has clear policies in place which demonstrate the high expectations of her practice. She keeps meticulous and
