Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
There is one child living at the home. The home is welcoming and has photos of the child and their family on display. This gives the child a sense of belonging. There are some repairs needed to the home. The manager started to address these during the inspection and a recommendation has been made.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The child has a detailed care plan, which means that staff have up-to-date information about the child’s needs. Care plans show the child’s aims and objectives, which allows the manager to monitor progress.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The child has made good progress from their starting point. The child is registered with all the primary healthcare services, and staff support their health needs. The child attends education, and staff promote a culture of learning. The manager has high ambitions for the child’s education and has recently supported them during a college open day.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The manager and staff support the child to see their family and the people who are important to them. This helps the child with their sense of identity and to maintain important relationships.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
There have been recent changes in the staff team; however, this has not affected the child’s relationships with staff. The child says that they get on well with staff, and the inspector observed positive relationships.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
The child can express their views and wishes. Weekly meetings are held where the child can decide on meals and activities. Additionally, the child is regularly consulted about their care and is involved in staff appraisals.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Staff understand risks to the child, and clear risk management plans and strategies are in place for staff to follow to reduce any risks. As a result, risks for the child have reduced, particularly in relation to sexual exploitation.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
When the child goes missing from home, staff respond quickly to ensure the child’s safe return and share information with the relevant people. However, on some occasions, the missing-from-home protocol is not followed and there are inconsistencies in the time taken to report the child missing. This increases the risk when the child is missing, and a requirement has been made.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Staff manage the child’s challenging behaviour effectively and encourage the child to reflect on incidents in a constructive and supportive way. Inappropriate behaviour is challenged and de-escalated as appropriate. Boundaries are reinforced and the child Inspection report for children’s home: SC456532 4 is supported by staff, who provide a structured routine. Appropriate rewards and consequences are used to promote positive behaviour.

The manager is passionate about delivering child-centred support. The manager knows the strengths and weaknesses of the home and has clear plans in place to develop the workforce and the home.
