p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children are exceptionally happy in this child-orientated and nurturing setting. The childminder has built strong and loving relationships with the children. She knows and understands their individual needs extremely well. As a result, children are confident and at ease in the home-from-home setting. They consistently show how safe and secure they feel as they confidently explore the environment. The childminder uses the children's interests to build their knowledge of different subjects, with a strong focus on the world around them. In one story, the children were interested in a snail. The childminder then discussed this with them and they pretended to be snails. She encouraged them to think about what could be used for a shell and why the snails need them. They then discussed looking for snails during their afternoon walk to the park, and found a magnifying glass to take with them.

n The childminder is a brilliant role model. She has excellent relationships with the children and knows them all individually. She is exceptionally patient with them. She listens and responds to them equally at all times. This helps to ensure that the children feel their opinions are valued, and gives them confidence to join in discussions and ask questions. n Children are consistently encouraged to be independent and make their own choices. For example, during lunchtime, children set their own places, choosing which plates and cutlery they would like. When using the toilet, they are taught about privacy and self-care. This builds self-confidence and an understanding of their personal needs. n The childminder prepares delicious, healthy and nutritious meals. She expertly extends children's learning during this time. For example, when offering children honey for their yogurt, she asks them questions relating to previous learning

n The childminder uses an abundance of well thought out out opportunities to develop and embed the children's understanding of mathematical concepts. For example, while children are making play-dough pizza, they use language such as circle, half and sphere. The children then use this language and are enthusiastic when talking about where they found the tube. n Through highly effective observation and assessment, the childminder successfully plans for the children's development. For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, the childminder researches this area, including training courses she can attend to support the child's development.
