p.1

The provision is good

Children are confident, happy and safe in the childminder's home. They demonstrate that they feel secure and clearly enjoy playing with the childminder and her assistants. Children's well-being and self-esteem are well supported. The childminder and her assistants are great role models for children. Children's behaviour is very good. They listen carefully to instructions and eagerly take part in all activities. They show can-do attitudes, working together to help to tidy up and take pride in their surroundings.

p.2

The provision is good

Children creatively manipulate play dough, strengthening their hand muscles and hand-to-eye coordination skills. The childminder skilfully offers ideas to help children to think for themselves about what they could add. Children have many opportunities to take part in role play. They practise using new words and communicating with others. Children are offered cues by the childminder's assistants. For example, they say, 'doctor, can you tell me what is wrong with my leg?'. Children decide themselves what they would like to set up in the role-play area. For instance, the childminder transforms the space into a potion mixing station and an ice cream parlour. Children make good progress in their learning. Older children, in particular, show that they are developing the confidence and skills in preparation for their move to school.

need to do better?

n The childminder is passionate about giving children the best start in learning. Her motto is 'we do what is right for the child'. The childminder and her assistants ensure that they are patient and supportive of children's individual needs. They place children's self-esteem, well-being and independence at the centre of their curriculum. n Opportunities for children to practise their independence skills are interwoven throughout the daily routine. For example, children identify their own drinking cup and pour their water when they are thirsty. They learn to notice when and how to blow their nose, then clean their hands after. Children are exceptionally confident to use safety knives to cut up fruit and vegetables for their lunch. They consistently show confidence in carrying out tasks and looking after themselves. n The childminder helps children to learn about their emotions and why they have particular feelings. Younger children look in the mirror and copy facial

expressions. Older children hold discussions with the adults to explore why they might be feeling happy or tired. Furthermore, the childminder encourages children to understand why others might be feeling happy or sad. This helps children to learn empathy. n Overall, the childminder and her assistants assess what children know and can do well. They regularly discuss children's progress and needs with parents. In

19 October 2022 the main, they plan appropriately challenging next steps in learning for each child. However, occasionally, some of the next steps identified are too broad, particularly for younger children. The childminder does not always sharply focus on the precise next steps needed to ensure that younger children are being supported to learn as rapidly as the older children. n Children learn to notice and compare eye colours, seeing the similarities that they have with others. The childminder displays children's own family photos for them to talk about and share with others. While children develop their knowledge about what makes themselves unique, there are less opportunities available for them to learn about others and lives different to their own. n Children's healthy eating is very important to the childminder. She supports children to develop their understanding of leading healthy lifestyles well. The

childminder ensures that children eat five portions of fruit and vegetables daily. Children help to prepare their food and have plenty of choice. n Upon arrival, it was identified that the childminder was operating and providing care for children with three assistants. This is a breach of childminder's registration requirements. The childminder took swift and decisive action to reduce the number of adults from four to three. There was no impact to the quality of care and education provided. The childminder assured her commitment to operate within the requirements of her registration in the future. n The childminder is committed to developing the quality of her own teaching and that of her assistants. She focuses on professional development opportunities to continually improve the quality of education for children.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder's home is secure and clean. She knows the signs and symptoms of child abuse. Her assistants are also confident in identifying any possible signs of abuse. These include, child exploitation, female genital mutilation and knowledge of the 'Prevent' duty. Furthermore, the childminder and her assistants are vigilant in considering how parents and older siblings could also be at risk. The childminder understands the correct local procedures to follow in the event of a concern. She knows how to respond if an allegation is made about herself or her assistants. The childminder conducts regular risk assessments to help to ensure children's safety.
