Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC065046 1 SC065046

p.1

Beaufort care Group

Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The home is registered to care for up to three children. It provides care for children with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. The home is operated by a private provider, which has several other homes in the area.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The manager registered with Ofsted on 14 January 2022.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

At the time of this monitoring visit, there was one child living in the home.

p.1

This monitoring visit

During a full inspection on 25 October and 26 October 2022, Ofsted judged the home to be inadequate. Serious and widespread failures in safeguarding, staffing levels, and leadership were identified. At the full inspection, two requirements and two recommendations were made. During this visit, progress has been seen in respect of the requirements, with one requirement fully met and the second in progress.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Leaders and managers have used the last inspection as an opportunity to learn and develop the service. Following the inspection, the provider commissioned a further investigation of practice to identify gaps in processes and knowledge. This has led to a change in the reporting structures within the home, so that any issues are escalated and addressed earlier. The manager told the inspector that they had found this to be a useful and supportive learning process.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The learning approach taken by the leaders and managers has disseminated into the practice within the team. Staff told the inspector that things are more positive since the last inspection and they feel that leaders and managers are more organised and visible, and they understand what is expected of them in their role. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC065046 2 Safeguarding practices have significantly improved. Staff have received further training to strengthen their understanding of safeguarding concerns and how to respond to these. Safeguarding incidents that have occurred since the last inspection were appropriately identified and well managed by staff and managers. When a member of staff had overlooked a concern, leaders and managers were quick to recognise this and put the necessary actions in place, ensuring the immediate and future safety of the child.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staffing levels and the inconsistencies within the staff team were previously impacting on the experiences of children. Leaders and managers have changed their approach to recruitment and two new members of the team are due to join in the coming months. In the meantime, there are no new admissions to the home. The current staff team are familiar with the child who lives in the home and, with only one child placed, are well staffed to meet their needs.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The last inspection highlighted significant concerns in the progress made by the child while living in the home. In this short space of time since, staff and managers have been more proactive and dynamic in their approach to increasing engagement with the child. Leaders and managers are also better at advocating for the child’s needs and utilising the expertise of their colleagues to access resources and work towards shared goals for the child.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Leaders and managers are clear in their understanding about where their attention is now needed to further develop the team and embed good practice. Thought has been given to the home environment, which has already seen some homely and personal touches made by the child. There are future plans to rethink the rooms and spaces within the home to make the best use of the space to meet the children’s needs.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Ofsted will continue to monitor this home and will undertake a further inspection.
