p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children are exposed to a risk of significant harm because the childminder has failed to put adequate measures in place to ensure their safety. They have access to a lit gas fire that does not have adequate guards to protect them from harm. This exposes children to risk of significant burns. Children also play alongside large pieces of wood that are stacked across the length of the lounge. This places them at further risk of harm and injury. The childminder has failed to recognise these risks.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

During the inspection, significant building work was taking place. The childminder failed to notify Ofsted of this change to her premises, which is a breach of requirements. In addition, she has also failed to ensure her premises are suitable or safe for children to access during this time. This significantly affects the quality of education, which hinders children's learning.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Despite weaknesses, children enjoy interactions with the childminder. She carefully counts out jigsaw pieces as children make the corresponding animal sounds. The childminder offers them lots of praise for this. Children clearly have a strong attachment with the childminder and feel secure in the relationship. The childminder is gentle and calm. Young children snuggle up on her knee and play with her necklace, which helps to settle them to sleep.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder acknowledged that she is not meeting the requirements and the environment is not suitable for children. This is due to the building work being completed on the premises. The childminder has failed to notify Ofsted of the work being undertaken. This has affected the space available to children and the quality of care being offered. The childminder is not aware that she is required to inform Ofsted. This has resulted in children accessing an environment that is not safe or suitable. n The childminder has not considered the safety of children within her environment. She has failed to manage risks or take reasonable steps to protect children. For example, children are exposed to a fire that is not adequately protected to ensure they cannot touch or fall into it while it is turned on. As a result, children are exposed to risks of significant harm within the environment. n Children have a limited area to play due to the chaotic environment and limited

resources that are available for them to access. Furthermore, the childminder has limited knowledge of the areas of learning and the ways in which children learn. This has a significant impact on their learning and development. However, the childminder and children enjoy going out for walks and attending groups with other childminders.

p.2

need to do better?

23 November 2022 n Children who speak English as an additional language attend the setting. The childminder is working with parents to help develop their children's communication, using signs and gestures, for example. However, she has limited understanding of children's early communication skills. This has an impact on their early communication development. n Children's behaviour is good. They understand the childminder's routine and boundaries. For example, while eating snack, young children know to sit on the childminder's knee, which they do when prompted. However, the environment does not support children's learning due to numerous hazards and limited space that is available to them. Children cannot play safely or independently. As a result, they cannot access experiences that develop their curiosity. This also means that children to do not have a positive attitude to learning. n Children's good heath is not adequately promoted. The kitchen, where

significant building work is taking place, is cluttered with unwashed plates and pots. As a result, the childminder is unable to ensure safe and hygienic preparation of food for children. n The childminder was unable to provide documents when requested, including her registration certificate. This does not ensure the safe and efficient management of the setting.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder does not have a strong enough understanding of her role and responsibilities to keep children safe. As a result, children are exposed to harm while in her care. These significant weaknesses have gone unnoticed by the childminder. The childminder has a basic understanding of the different types of abuse and the signs and symptoms to look out for. She understands the procedures to follow if she has a concern that a child is at risk of harm. This means that she can respond appropriately.
