p.1
The provision is good
Children are happy, confident and very settled in the childminder's nurturing care. They know where their favourite toys are and very happily focus on self-chosen activities as well as adult-led activities.
p.2
The provision is good
Children behave well and know how to share and take turns. The childminder has high expectations for their behaviour. She models the use of good manners effectively. Children respond positively to continual praise and encouragement, which helps to raise their self-esteem.
p.2
The provision is good
Children's independence is encouraged well. They have space to play and explore, excitedly moving between rooms to choose different toys and games. The childminder encourages them to make choices about what they want to play with. Children are provided with a range of trips, visits and outings to widen their experiences. For example, the childminder attends local groups and meets up with other childminders to support children's social and communication skills.
p.2
The provision is good
Children develop a love of books. They are confident to select books to read and look at books independently. They enjoy talking about their favourite stories and recalling the events of the story relating to what they are doing.

need to do better?
n The childminder and assistant know the children extremely well and take account of their personalities when planning how best to engage them in learning. This approach is very successful in helping children to focus and enjoy their learning. For example, she knows that some children learn best in the outdoor environment. With this in mind, she carefully considers how to set up the outdoor environment each day to promote children's learning. n The childminder demonstrates a genuine enjoyment in her work and spending time with children. She is kind, nurturing and responsive to the children's needs. The childminder supports children's early communication skills well, particularly for children who speak English as an additional language. For example, she clearly emphasises key words within her interactions, introduces new vocabulary and provides children with a narrative during their play and exploration.
p.2

n The childminder extends children's literacy skills effectively. She skilfully intertwines early writing skills into their play and exploration as well as encouraging children to identify some letters and sounds. Children acquire a good range of key skills in preparation for the next stage of their development and the eventual move on to school. n Children are learning how to lead a healthy lifestyle. The childminder and her assistant encourage children to be physically active and ensures they follow

1 December 2022 good hygiene routines, such as washing their hands regularly. The childminder provides nutritious snacks and meals, which the children thoroughly enjoy. n The childminder and assistant review their activities and resources effectively. The childminder evaluates her own practice and that of her assistant and co- childminder and keeps all statutory training up to date. However, she has not yet focused professional development on precisely extending the quality of education to a higher level. n Children develop a good understanding of diversity beyond their immediate family. For example, the childminder ensures that the environment includes positive cultural images, books and role-play resources for them to explore. Children understand and value each other's family backgrounds. n Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder exchanges frequent information with them about children's progress. The childminder is reflective

and invites feedback from parents to further develop effective partnerships. Parents comment positively about the care and education the childminder provides for their children. n The childminder is enthusiastic and motivates children to explore and follow their ideas effectively. She works extremely well with her co-childminder. They regularly engage in professional discussion, contributing to the generally well- organised provision. However, she has not yet thoroughly thought through how to fully engage younger children in group activities and extend their learning even more.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder keeps her safeguarding knowledge up to date. She knows the signs that would cause her concern about a child's welfare. The childminder keeps well informed about her local safeguarding procedures and knows who to contact if she has any concerns. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments to help identify and minimise any hazards in her environment. She works closely with her co-childminder and assistant to supervise children's play continuously. This helps to keep children safe from harm.
