p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children's safety is compromised in this setting. The childminder has not kept her first-aid certificate up to date. This means she is not qualified to administer first aid in the event of an accident. Furthermore, the childminder has not kept her knowledge and understanding of safeguarding up to date. This affects her ability to be able to follow the correct procedures should she have any concerns about a child's safety. This impacts on children's safety and well-being.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The poorly designed curriculum provides limited opportunities for children. During the inspection, children were invited to complete an alphabet jigsaw. The varying ages of children were not considered when planning this activity. Older children tried to connect the pieces and were being directed by the childminder in order to help them complete the puzzle. However, the activity was too difficult, and they became bored and wandered away from the activity. As a result of weaknesses in the curriculum, children's attitudes to learning are not successful.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The childminder has strategies in place for dealing with children's behaviour. However, these are not always consistently applied. For example, the childminder speaks to children about unwanted behaviour and asks them to have 'time out' for a few minutes. Children listen and follow the childminder's instructions, but they soon get up and go to play again once the childminder's attention is elsewhere. At other times, the childminder does not deal with unwanted behaviour. Consequently, children are given mixed messages about the expectations of them.
p.2
need to do better?
n The quality of education is poor. The childminder is not secure in her knowledge about what children know and need to learn next. For example, she does not provide activities with a purpose. As a result, children are not making sufficient progress. The childminder introduces some activities that children enjoy. For example, she gives all children a balloon, and they hit them up in the air repeatedly. However, this does not captivate them, and they become bored and wander off. The limited space available to join in with this activity makes it difficult to enjoy it. In addition, the childminder has no purposeful intentions for this game. n The childminder has not kept her knowledge of safeguarding up to date. This puts children at risk. The childminder has attended some training sessions at the local school since her previous inspection. However, she has not used knowledge from training to enhance her day-to-day practice. Furthermore, the childminder's

need to do better?
9 November 2022 the number of children in attendance it is not always possible. Therefore, children do not benefit from fresh air and exercise. However, the childminder says she occasionally takes children out in the local community. For example, she takes children to the local park and library. n Parents say that their children are happy and content in the childminder's care. They feel that their children have a variety of experiences and enjoy the food they are offered. The childminder communicates with parents electronically and keeps them up to date about their children. n The childminder speaks to children appropriately. She encourages them to look at books and also reads to them. Children enjoy pointing to the pictures and recalling their favourite parts of the story. Consequently, children are starting to develop a love of books. The childminder is aware of children's individual communication needs and works in partnership with parents regarding these.
p.2
need to do better?
n Children are encouraged to communicate their toileting needs. Older children do this successfully. The childminder encourages children to wash their hands and follow hygiene procedures. Children have access to their water cups. However, older children drink from cups with lids on. As a result, their independence is not fully promoted in preparation for starting school.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder does not have a secure enough understanding of her role to safeguard children. Although she has attended some training sessions, she is unable to demonstrate how she would raise concerns regarding children. She does not know who to contact with concerns and is not familiar with the local authority reporting procedure. The childminder has allowed her paediatric first-aid certificate to lapse for a significant length of time. For example, the certificate expired in 2018, and the childminder has made no effort to complete this training since.
