p.1

The provision is good

Children are settled, confident and very happy. They enjoy their time at the setting and have a positive attitude towards their learning. Children form affectionate bonds with the childminder in this safe and nurturing environment. Children are eager to join in with the motivating activities that the childminder carefully plans for them. For example, children show fascination as they use their hands to feel lentils on a tray. They demonstrate strong physical development as they scoop and pour the lentils using cups and spoons.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave very well. They are kind and helpful towards one another. The childminder is a good role model. She uses praise to highlight children's good behaviour. For example, when she observes children sharing, she praises their 'warm heart'. This helps children to understand what is expected of them and contributes to the extremely warm and caring environment.

p.2

The provision is good

Children enjoy lots of opportunities to socialise with their peers, and they regularly visit local children's groups. The childminder also uses this as an opportunity to create relationships with other childminders and early years professionals, where she can share ideas and keep her knowledge up to date. The childminder broadens children's experiences by making the most of the local community with trips to the local library, parks and using public transport.

n The childminder places a strong emphasis on children's language and communication. She gives children plenty of opportunities to engage in meaningful conversations. The childminder makes sure that she speaks in a clear way and consistently includes new words for children to learn. Children are confident communicators and freely express their thoughts and opinions. For example, they confidently explain to the inspector what types of books they have, declaring, 'This book is all about transport,' and carefully pointing to the different pictures in the book. n The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles. She provides a variety of well- balanced snacks, with drinking water accessible throughout the day. Children have countless opportunities to learn how to keep themselves healthy. For example, children practise brushing teeth using the resources on the oral health table that the childminder has created. Children have plenty of opportunities to

get fresh air and exercise as they go on walks and visit the park. n The childminder knows children very well. She carries out regular observations of their interests and plans activities around these to help to close any gaps in their learning. She shares these observations with parents on a daily basis, so that, together, they can support children's learning. Children make good

23 November 2022 progress in their learning and development. n Children are confident learners and enjoy exploring all the exciting resources available to them. For example, younger children independently choose a puzzle to complete, eagerly spotting that there is a shark in the puzzle. Older children confidently hold up a snake and tell the inspector, 'This snake slithers.' The childminder supports children to develop their curiosity and remain motivated to learn. She is keen to join in their play and learning. n The childminder evaluates her practice effectively. She is extremely passionate about updating and expanding her knowledge and understanding and providing children with high-quality experiences. The childminder attends and completes regular training. This helps her to enhance her teaching skills and to enrich children's experiences even further. Recent training has led to improvements in the way the childminder supports children with toilet training and the most

effective way in which to do this. n Parents speak highly of the supportive and caring childminder. They comment that they are happy with the care that the childminder provides and the home- from-home environment that she creates. Parents have ample opportunities to share their ideas and provide feedback. n On occasion, the childminder does not follow children's lead when they play or are engaged in activities. Through her passion and eagerness to provide children with as many different experiences as possible, she offers children different activities when they are already engaged in an activity. This, sometimes, distracts children and they lose focus on what they were doing.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder ensures that she is kept up to date with safeguarding issues through training. She is well informed about the indicators of abuse and knows how to identify those children who may be at risk of harm. The childminder is aware of her responsibility to act in a timely way to facilitate support for children. She knows the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder knows the steps to follow if an allegation is made against her or a member of her household. The childminder's home is clean, well maintained and secure.
