p.1

The provision is good

The childminder provides a nurturing environment for children to learn. She builds strong bonds with the children to help them to feel safe and secure. Children make choices about what they want to learn. They call the childminder by name to invite her into their play. She offers them lots of praise and celebrates their achievements, which builds their confidence and self-esteem.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave well. They giggle and laugh as they play alongside each other, sharing ideas and taking turns. The childminder is a good role model. She gives children gentle reminders and encourages them to resolve conflicts themselves. The children tell each other how they feel and understand their actions can harm others. This enables children to manage their feelings and behaviours later in life.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder prioritises children having experiences outside. They visit the local woodlands and parks, where they learn about different animals and plants. For example, the children find some leaves during their play. They notice the differences in each leaf, such as size, shape and colour. The childminder provides the children with a nature book, which they look through and find their leaves, saying 'I have an oak tree leaf'. This supports children to gain knowledge and understanding about the world around them.

n The childminder knows what she wants children to learn. She has devised a clear curriculum that covers all seven areas of learning. The curriculum is a blend of child-led play and adult-planned activities. The childminder uses the seasons to spark new curiosity and interest. She plans activities around children's current interests and their next stages of learning. The childminder interacts with the children during their play, extending their knowledge past what they already know. This enables children to make good progress. n Children's health and well-being are the main focus of the childminder. She provides the children with a wide range of opportunities to be physically active. Children visit the local soft-play centres, where they engage in large physical play, which strengthens their muscles. They understand the effect exercise can have on their bodies. The childminder plans activities aimed at developing the

muscles needed for later writing skills. For example, after singing 'Wind the bobbin up', the childminder gives the children bobbins and pipe cleaners. They wind the pipe cleaner around the bobbin, following the actions of the song. n Parents report that they are extremely happy with the service provided by the childminder. She builds good relationships with the children and their families. Children make good progress and leave school ready. The parents value their children's experiences with the childminder exploring nature and getting out in

18 November 2022 the community. They state their children come home happy to show their creations from the day. Parents' feedback that communication from the childminder is good. They receive regular information on their children's development and learning. The childminder supplies activities, books and games to continue the children's learning at home. She offers the parents lots of support and guidance on concerns, such as potty training, dummies, and dental routines. n The children show they can do things for themselves, such as putting on their shoes and coats. They access the toilets by themselves and regularly wash their hands. The childminder offers children choices, which allows them to feel confident and take charge of their learning. The children help prepare snacks and tidy the toys away when they have finished playing. This teaches children valuable life skills for later life. n Overall, the childminder supports children's mathematical development well. The

children show they can identify numbers by name and count to ten. They confidently compare how many pieces of fruit they have on each plate. For example, while cutting fruit with a safety knife. The children tell the childminder that they had 'one banana and now it is ten'. However, the childminder does not extend children's learning further by teaching them new mathematical concepts, such as 'halves' and 'quarters'. n The childminder prioritises children's communication and language skills. She reads the children's stories, sings songs and plays a range of word games to extend their vocabulary. However, the childminder does not consistently repeat words back to children using the correct pronunciation. This means children do not always make the best possible progress.

The childminder is aware of safeguarding issues within the area, such as the rise in drug-related crime. She attends regular meetings to keep her knowledge up to date.
