p.1
The provision is good
Children arrive at the childminder's home with a smile on their face. They happily say goodbye to their parents. They take their shoes off and put their belongings away, ready to explore the environment. Children confidently engage in activities that the childminder has planned for them. She ensures that activities are age- appropriate and meet the needs of each child.

The provision is good
Children are offered the opportunity to learn through many real-life experiences with the childminder. The childminder has chickens in the garden, which children are confident to engage with, and a large fish tank full of tropical fish that they enjoy watching. They also go on outings to the local greengrocers, library and nursing home to interact with the residents. The childminder explains how the children have had a particular interest in spiders and Halloween. She uses this information to plan an effective curriculum, based on the children's interests. For example, she shows the children the skin of a tarantula that has recently been shed. Children confidently touch it and explain how it feels. The childminder has used the interests of the children to develop all areas of learning, including their fine motor skills.

n The childminder ensures that children are given opportunities to develop their own personal hygiene. Children are supported to wash their hands before mealtimes and clean their own faces after eating. She also promotes children's confidence with brushing their teeth and oral health. Each child has their own toothbrush. They sing a song about brushing their teeth before getting their toothbrush, and practise this independently. n The childminder embeds communication and language development throughout the day. She continually encourages children to join in with conversations when they sit down at snack and mealtimes. They reflect on their day and talk about what they have learned. Children are also keen to join in with songs and rhymes. They interact with each other as they dance and join in with the songs that they know. However, the childminder does not consistently provide the children with time to respond to questions in order for them to develop their

They comment on the progress that their children and have made and the wide variety of opportunities they are offered. Parents particularly praise the childminder for the healthy meals that she cooks the children and the opportunities that she provides for them to try new foods. n Children enjoy playing outside with the wide variety of resources available to them. The childminder supports them during water play. Children use jugs to pour water and pipettes to fill and empty. This helps to develop their fine motor skills. However, the childminder does not always organise activities well enough or provide enough explanation to children to enable them to fully understand what she wants them to learn. n The childminder is passionate about her role and the impact that she has on improving the outcomes for all children, including those with special educational
