p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager has been in post since February 2020.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This children’s home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 6 and 7 September 2022. The inspector found widespread failings in respect of the leadership and management of the home, and the safeguarding of the children that have lived in the home since the previous inspection in September 2021.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was to review the progress made against the requirements.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Following the inspection, senior leaders and the registered manager took immediate action to respond to the concerns. A comprehensive action plan was produced to safeguard the two children living in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The manager and the staff have worked well and refurbished parts of the home. Children have taken part in the redecoration of the home and, in particular, the office is now a comfortable communal study area. This means that children live in a home that is safe and comfortable.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Team meetings and supervision sessions have provided the staff with opportunities to reflect on how they support the children. In addition, workshops and training have refreshed the staff’s understanding of each of the children’s needs.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff have made strenuous attempts to support the two children during this period. Behaviours that have previously challenged the staff have significantly reduced, so Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2549629 2 much so that the levels of staffing for one child have reduced, and one child is enjoying safe time with their friends in the community.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The staff team has remained relatively stable. Despite some staff leaving, recruitment is underway, and the loss of the staff has not impacted on the safe care of the children. Sufficiency of staff will continue to be reviewed in the event of another child moving into the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have reviewed a number of their documents, including risk assessments and behaviour support plans. These documents now provide staff with clearer strategies to support the children. Staff told the inspector that there is now consistency in how they support the children, and this is having a positive impact on the children’s behaviours and the morale of the staff.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Some documents, for example the compatibility risk assessment, have also been reviewed. However, these cannot yet be measured for their effectiveness. They will be reviewed when children move into the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The action plan and its revisions have been routinely submitted to Ofsted and progress continues. Leaders and managers have taken sufficient action to address the shortfalls. This means that a number of the requirements have been addressed. Ofsted will continue to monitor the progress towards the remaining requirements and a second full inspection will take place.
