p.1
This monitoring visit
This was the first visit to the home since it was registered with Ofsted on 13 September 2022.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit was undertaken due to Ofsted receiving information which indicated children may not be receiving good enough care by sufficient staff who were suitably trained.
p.1
This monitoring visit
At the time of this visit, four children were living at the home. Children are cared for by a sufficient number of staff, who provide consistent care in line with the children’s plans. Staff have had the appropriate training in a variety of topics which builds their knowledge and skills. However, some new staff who have worked in other childcare settings have not yet attained the appropriate qualification. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2677057 2 When children are unwell, staff seek medical advice. However, on one occasion, records did not clearly show how staff liaised with education staff and decided whether or not a child should go to school when they had not fully recovered.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The houses are well kept, clean and tidy. Children’s bedrooms are personalised and staff are starting to personalise the houses with photos of the children. The houses are homely. Children have access to the kitchen with staff support to get their own snacks and drinks. Cupboards and fridges were well stocked, with a variety of foods. On one occasion, the inspector noticed that staff had left a door propped open with a stool after hoovering. This could have prevented the door from closing in the event of a fire.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers have completed comprehensive assessments of children to ensure that staff can meet the children’s needs and keep them safe. They obtained additional information when needed and reviewed assessments when new information came to light. Children’s moves are well planned and, when possible, carried out at the pace of the child. As a result, two children have settled quickly.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers have worked with parents and other professionals involved in the children’s care to reassess children’s needs and identify any additional support needed when they are struggling to settle. For one child, it was found the site where the children’s home and the school are located was too big. This resulted in an escalation in behaviours and was impacting on others living at the home. Managers took the difficult decision to give notice so that a more appropriate placement could be found.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff have completed robust risk assessments which give details of the risks to children and the action staff need to take to reduce those risks. Children who are subject to a deprivation of liberty order are cared for appropriately and restrictions are only used when assessed as necessary.
