Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC439956 1 SC439956 Registered provider: Active Ark Limited

p.1

Inspected under the social care common inspection framework

p.1

Information about this children’s home

This home is operated by a private provider. It is registered to provide care for one child.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

There is a manager in post who has applied to register with Ofsted.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 27 and 28 September 2022. Following this inspection, four compliance notices were issued under section 22A of the Care Standards Act 2000. These related to regulation 12, the protection of children standard, regulation 13, the leadership and management standard, regulation 32, fitness of workers and regulation 35, behaviour management policies and records.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This visit was carried out to monitor the action taken by the provider to meet the compliance notices.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Records of significant events have improved. The manager conducted a training session with the staff to improve their knowledge of how to record appropriately. The manager also discussed the importance of recording and reporting all significant incidents. She has also implemented a monitoring system to ensure that these reports are reviewed and evaluated effectively.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The clarity of children’s risk assessments has improved. Risk assessments clearly identify individual risks for the child and the strategies that staff should follow to reduce these risks. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC439956 2 Direct work has taken place to help the child understand the risks she may face and how to keep herself safe in the community and in the home. This has helped the child understand how to keep herself safe.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The manager now completes staff supervisions. These are practice based, and they give the staff the opportunity to reflect on their practice and how this may impact the child.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The manager has made improvements in the quality of her monitoring arrangements. The manager has greater oversight of significant events, including the actions taken following these.

p.2

This monitoring visit

There are sufficient staffing levels to meet the child’s needs. The rota reflects that each shift has appropriately trained staff on duty. However, the manager does not always record the actual hours that she works.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Staff have now received training in subjects that are relevant to the needs of the child that lives in the home, specifically in restraint training, first aid and fire safety. Since the last inspection, there have been no restraints. This demonstrates that new strategies and staff training are effective.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The manager and responsible individual have completed training in safer recruitment. There have been no new staff recruited since the last full inspection. However, the manager has implemented a system to ensure that she checks and signs off all staff files before a new staff member works in the home.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Previous requirements and recommendations were not reviewed during this visit. Therefore, these are restated below.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Following this inspection, a case review was held. It was the decision of the case review that the provider has met the steps contained in the notice. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC439956 3
