p.1
The provision is outstanding
There is a loving, family feel to this home-from-home setting. Children are eager to play and settle quickly. Their behaviour is exemplary; they have excellent manners from a young age, saying 'please' and 'thank you'. Children are extremely kind and compassionate. They form strong bonds with each other. Older children empathise when younger children show signs of tiring and say, 'You're tired, do you need a sleep?' Children climb on the roundabout at the park and start moving it around. A child calls, 'I wanted to come on too,' and they immediately stop the roundabout to allow them to get on safely.
p.2
The provision is outstanding
Children have wonderful attitudes to learning and concentrate intently for extended periods of time. They sit in a circle to play a board game. Older children chat excitedly about what is happening in the game. The childminder and her assistant help younger children, who are eager to join in. Children take turns graciously and stay focused on the game until it ends.
p.2
The provision is outstanding
The childminder supports children to become increasingly confident and resilient. Children want to climb a tall ladder to reach a slide but show a little trepidation. The childminder encourages children to have a go themselves before offering support. She gives gentle instructions, such as 'take it slowly, one foot at a time' and 'big stretch'. Children listen and follow her advice. They reach the top and beam with pride as the childminder praises them profusely. Children go on to climb the ladder again and again with confidence.

n The childminder knows the children extremely well and thoroughly understands their capabilities. She plans meaningful experiences and activities which build on children's skills, knowledge and interests. Children discuss footprints they spotted on a recent walk. They talk about the shape of the footprints and how they decided which animals could have made them. They use mathematical language to compare the sizes of animals' paws, such as 'bigger', 'smaller' and 'round'. The childminder embeds and extends their learning by asking them thoughtful questions. n The childminder and her assistants model a broad range of language. They hold animated conversations with children, who speak with fluency. The childminder introduces new words to extend children's vocabulary. She asks children questions as they play, giving them time to think and respond. The childminder skilfully uses props, books and songs to support babies' developing

understanding of language. Older children confidently use words such as 'germs', 'flavour', 'delicious' and 'because' to talk about different foods and explain how healthy they are.

need to do better?
19 October 2022 n Children experience a range of fun-filled activities to support their physical development. They practise using their small-muscle skills as they use knives skilfully to cut up fruit, under close supervision. Staff subtly remind younger children to move the knives 'backwards and forwards'. Children keep trying and proudly exclaim, 'I did it!' The childminder provides a wealth of opportunities for children to explore a variety of equipment, such as climbing frames, slides and balancing beams outdoors. Children become agile and coordinated movers. n The childminder is passionate about broadening children's personal experiences. She and her assistants teach children about their local community and take them on walks to explore their surroundings. The childminder plans a wide range of outings, including adventure playgrounds, farms and taking the bus to the library. She creates displays with lots of photos from their outings, and children

adore looking at these. They remember each experience and are animated as they talk about their memories. n The childminder values training and additional qualifications, and her assistants share this ethos. One assistant is currently working towards a level 3 early years qualification to strengthen her practice. The childminder encourages the sharing of good practice, and this inspires her to plan activities which incorporate new ideas and methods of teaching. As a result, teaching is consistently of a very high standard. n Parents hold the childminder in high esteem and say they 'couldn't ask any more'. They feel their children make 'excellent progress' and that the childminder provides a nurturing and stimulating environment for them to play in. The childminder communicates with parents electronically, through daily conversations and writes a termly report. She invites parents to share children's achievements at home. She creates extension activities called 'busy bags' for

older children to take home to maximise their learning.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has an exceptional understanding of safeguarding. She ensures her assistants understand their responsibilities in keeping children safe. The childminder and her assistants clearly know reporting procedures and who to call for support with concerns about children's welfare. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments of her setting and outings. She teaches children to understand how to keep themselves safe. For example, they help her check whether it is safe before crossing a road. They look both ways, and children tell her to listen out for cars and vans. The childminder extends their learning by explaining that you cannot always hear electric cars as they are very quiet.
