p.1
The provision is inadequate
Children are not safe in the childminder's home due to the safety of the premises and the childminder's poor understanding of keeping children safe. For example, a rat trap and weed killer were on the floor within the play area in the garden, which was within reach of children. Access to a tool shed with sheers and other dangerous gardening equipment are easily accessible from the play area for the children. This gives children access to potentially harmful equipment. Cleaning chemicals are easily accessible to children in a low cupboard with no locks on, further giving access to potentially harmful products for children. The childminder is not clear what records should be recorded for accidents in the setting and the appropriate first aid to be administered. Parents are not informed appropriately of accidents happening to their children or of the appropriate level of treatment received by children.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
The childminder often takes children on trips to the local library, park and theme park to provide a variety of experiences outside the setting for the children. Children play with toys that are in boxes in the childminder's playroom. Children quickly become bored, as the activity does not challenge them enough to hold their attention or extend their learning. The childminder is not able to prioritise children's individual learning experiences. Consequently, some children are not motivated to engage in good-quality play experiences.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder does not provide clear guidance for children on what is acceptable behaviour. On occasion, children's poor behaviour has a negative impact on their learning and enjoyment. Methods to teach children about behaviour and attitudes are not age and stage appropriate for the children, and language used with the children does not promote positive role modelling. For example, a child who was crying was not comforted sensitively and did not have their emotional needs met. Consequently, children are not able to learn examples of empathy and the importance of helping each other. n The childminder does not plan effectively for each child's learning needs. Consequently, not all activities consistently provide the appropriate level of challenge and engagement to fully meet children's individual learning needs. This means that the childminder does not always support children to make as much progress as they could.
p.2
need to do better?
n Young children do not sleep in a suitable safe space and on the appropriate sleeping equipment. Children go to sleep in prams, which does not fall in line with safe sleep guidance. n While the children are provided nutritious food for meals by the parents, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to teach them the value of

12 October 2022 making healthy choices. n Despite previous recommendations, the childminder does not use all opportunities to encourage children to develop age-appropriate responsibility and independence within their daily routines and experiences. For example, children are not given the opportunity to clean their own hands and face. n The childminder does not use self-evaluation well enough to identify all strengths and weaknesses that drive improvement and promote better outcomes for children. n The childminder does not maintain a good standard of hygiene and food safety. For example, children have their nappies changed in the kitchen area on a changing mat on the floor. Children are not cleaned appropriately during nappy changes without the full hygiene required of cleaning the children's skin after a wet nappy is changed. Therefore, this compromises children's health and safety, putting children at risk of harm.
p.2
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder does not know who to contact if there is a concern raised with regard to the 'Prevent' duty guidance or if she is concerned about a child. Children are at risk of harm due to the many safety issues identified in the childminder's home. The childminder has a poor understanding of how to consistently keep children safe in her care. For example, she explained that she sometimes carries out safety checks. However, despite this, many risks to children's health and safety have been found. The childminder does not fill in accident forms, and parents are not informed of accidents to their children.
