p.1

The provision is good

Children are warmly welcomed with a smile each morning before singing the 'good morning' song. They enjoy attending and form positive friendships. For example, children delight when they see their friends arriving and exclaim, 'That's my best friend!' They affectionately refer to the childminder as 'Di Di' and are keen to share their achievements with her. Children feel safe and secure. This helps them to settle well and make good progress.

p.2

The provision is good

Children benefit from varied opportunities to explore the world around them. They regularly visit the local community. Opportunities for children to develop their physical skills on trips to the park and soft-play centres are plentiful. They socialise with others at a playgroup and on day trips with other childminders. Children learn about animals while bird watching in the woods and on visits to the farm. These experiences give children a breadth of important knowledge.

p.2

The provision is good

Overall, children behave well. They are aware of the rules and routines. They help to tidy away toys in the well-resourced playroom. The childminder sets out clear expectations. For example, children are reminded that 'sharing is caring' and how toys need to be well looked after. Where children struggle with regulating their behaviour, the childminder is quick to act.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder gathers lots of important information about children's development from parents when children start. This helps her to be clear about what children can already do and what they need to learn next. This helps children to make good levels of progress. n The childminder plans activities based on children's next steps. For example, planned group activities help children to develop their communication and language skills. This helps them to hear new and interesting vocabulary. However, the childminder does not always consider the length and suitability of these activities. As a result, some children become bored and lose focus, which does not consistently achieve the planned intentions. n The childminder uses opportunities to extend children's mathematical understanding. They learn about counting through number songs. Children show that they enjoy this as they count puppets. The childminder skilfully introduces

the language of size as children build different-sized towers. n Children are encouraged to be independent. The childminder models how to do things and encourages children to have a go at activities such as dressing. This helps them to develop a can-do attitude. At mealtimes, children self-serve nutritious and well-balanced meals. They make their own sandwiches as even the youngest children butter bread.

p.2

need to do better?

11 October 2022 n Overall, children are taught how to keep themselves safe well. They learn about road safety while on walks. The childminder teaches them about good hygiene and the importance of limiting the spread of germs. Children are taught about the people who help them, such as firefighters and police officers. However, the childminder does not yet consider how to help children to learn how to manage risks while using the internet. This does not promote children's understanding of online safety effectively. n The animated childminder places significant value on singing and story times. Children delight and join in with actions and words. Reading is an important part of children's days. The childminder checks their understanding of stories by asking questions and encouraging them to make predictions. This helps to develop children's early literacy skills. n Parents are happy. They compliment the good progress that children make.

p.2

need to do better?

Communication with parents is good. Parents share their views through regular questionnaires. The childminder is quick to act on any feedback. For example, she has recently improved the way in which she delivers information about babies' days with parents. n The childminder says she loves her job. She makes good use of training to develop her skills and knowledge. For example, she is currently undertaking a communication and language course. Although still in its infancy, she has already made changes to the way in which she supports children's vocabulary and has developed her knowledge. This helps to raise the quality of her teaching further. n The childminder has good partnerships with other professionals. She complements older children's school learning and supports them with homework and reading. Furthermore, she networks with other childminders to share good practice and further improve her service.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder is clear about her role in safeguarding children. She shows a good understanding of the signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk of abuse. Clear policies are in place for responding to any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder understands the procedures to follow should there be an allegation made against herself or a member of her household. Risk assessments help to identify and eliminate any hazards in the property and while on outings. Young children are familiar with fire evacuation procedures. They confidently talk about the processes to follow during fire drills. This helps to keep them safe.
