p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and settled. The childminder is sensitive towards children's emotional needs. She recognises when children may need a little extra reassurance. For example, if children become shy during activities, she instantly offers them reassurance and talks through how they are feeling to help them to feel secure again. This builds on children's emotional security. Children show curiosity as they approach an activity with sand. The childminder encourages them to explore the texture of the sand. They use their fingers to trace marks in the sand and show the childminder their creations with pride.

p.2

The provision is good

The children show eagerness when they recognise the next part of the day's routine. They have a can-do attitude as they put their coats on to go out in the garden. The childminder encourages children to try this for themselves before she offers help with their coat. The childminder introduces a range of activities that teach children how to brush their teeth. They respond warmly to 'Frankie' the puppet who helps them learn how to care for themselves by cleaning their teeth and brushing their hair.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder has exceptional knowledge of what children know already and how to progress their learning. Children contribute to the activities with their own ideas. For instance, when they go on a walk, children select natural resources to explore and they use these later to make their own bunting to hang in the playroom. All children are making good progress in their development. n The childminder provides a range of activities for children to explore and build on their previous knowledge. However, there are times when the childminder does not extend children's knowledge to build on their vocabulary and understanding. This means the childminder does not maximise her teaching to help children to achieve their highest potential. n Children are readily prepared for the next stage of their developmental journey. The childminder recognises what children need to learn next to ensure they transition smoothly to school. Children have plentiful opportunities to be

independent and build on their social skills to help grow their confidence. n Children visit a variety of places in the local community. The childminder thoughtfully plans where to visit with the children to gain the most from the experience. For instance, to support children's learning about Chinese New Year, they visit their local Chinese supermarket to find fortune cookies. This provides children with meaningful experiences that widen their understanding of diversity and different cultures. n Parents share positive feedback about the care and service the childminder provides. They value the experiences children have and share their appreciation

29 September 2022 for what the childminder has taught their children. For example, children learn to be empathetic through recent activities when they collected food for the homeless. This teaches children about how different people may live in the community and how they may be able to help them. n Children confidently select and count out natural objects from the tray. The childminder introduces prepositional language such as 'next to' or 'on top'. This helps children to develop their understanding of mathematical concepts. n Children follow good handwashing routines. The childminder encourages children to wash their hands before mealtimes. Children listen attentively to the childminder's instructions and praises them when they successfully dry their hands and place the tissue in the bin for themselves. n Children are active as they explore the garden with determination. They climb the steps of the slide with confidence and balance down the slide with ease.

p.2

need to do better?

They giggle as they rock back and forth on the rocking toys. n Children learn about healthy eating. They visit their local plant store and take pride in their choice of vegetable or fruit seeds ready to grow in the garden. Children proudly care for these as they watch them grow. This teaches children how to care for living things.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a good understanding of the different types of abuse a child may be at risk from. She understands her duty to report any concerns to the relevant agencies, including allegations against a household member. The childminder is vigilant when out in the garden and is fully aware of her surroundings and where children are playing. This ensures children are always in sight to ensure their safety. The home and garden are safe and secure.
