p.1

The provision is good

The childminder has created an inviting and interesting home for the children. Children feel welcome, confident and comfortable in the learning spaces. They have activities readily available for them to play with, such as shape sorters, train sets and building blocks. Children enjoy mark making and develop their creativity using crayons, paper and glue. The childminder provides opportunities for role-play games. For example, the children and childminder pretend they are in a restaurant and one of them is the waiter.

p.2

The provision is good

The children enjoy observing the three tortoises in the home. They discuss which are hibernating and which are sunbathing. The children learn about nature, habitats and how to care for others.

p.2

The provision is good

Partnerships with parents are good. Parents comment about how happy their children are to attend the setting and how they make good progress. They comment that the children can now name colours and are beginning to recognise their name and other letters.

p.2

The provision is good

Outside, the children have access to a well-equipped garden. There is a slide and trampoline that the children enjoy, and they develop physical skills. The children visit this area in all weathers and have wet-weather suits to wear when necessary. They also enjoy visits to the local park, which extends their play and social skills.

need to do better?

n The childminder has created a curriculum which is ambitious and well sequenced. The childminder knows the children well. She provides activities that build on what the children know and can do. For example, one child learned how to thread, which was a skill they did not have the day before. The childminder has another activity planned for this child, adding further challenges for when they are confident in threading. n The childminder asks open questions in discussions with the children. She gives the children time to think and respond. Children are confident in their language and communication and happy to talk with strangers visiting the home. n The childminder supports the children's mathematical development with activities such as counting, sequencing and working with shapes and learning their names, for instance 'triangle', 'square' and 'circle'. The childminder supports this learning with discussions to consolidate what the children already know. The

28 September 2022 in a healthy lunch. She also teaches the children healthy choices for screen time. n The childminder manages the children's behaviour well. She promotes each child's sense of uniqueness. She encourages the children to take appropriate risks and provides challenges in play and learning. She listens to the children and explains why some forms of behaviours are not acceptable. However, at times, the strategies the childminder currently uses are not successful, which results in some of the behaviours continuing. This can affect children's social interactions. n The childminder sometimes includes cultural celebrations in the activities she offers the children. However, she does not always extend the children's learning fully in this area. At times, in discussions, she does not make the most of opportunities to help the children have positive attitudes to different cultures. n The childminder is ambitious to provide high-quality care. She acts with integrity

and aims for the best for the children in her care. Communication and relationships with parents are strong. The childminder keeps a journal for the parents to see their children's progress. She also communicates with the parents with texts during the day and provides updates at collection and drop-off times.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Children are safe in the childminder's home. The childminder has good safeguarding knowledge concerning the signs of abuse and is confident in putting her knowledge into practice. She has effective systems to record and communicate any concerns. She knows how to refer all allegations about herself and other adults who care for the children or who live in the home. The childminder makes sure that risks are managed and children stay safe. Children learn how to keep themselves safe and develop good hygiene practices.
