p.1
The provision is good
Children show they are comfortable and at ease in the childminder's care. They readily sit on the childminder's legs as he reads them a story, and they confidently communicate 'no' when he offers them a drink. Young children concentrate well when looking at books and singing songs with the childminder. They show they are developing a love of stories and songs. Children engage the childminder in their play, for example, when building blocks and stacking different-shaped cups. The childminder helps the children solve simple problems, such as why the star-shaped cup will not click onto the round one.
p.2
The provision is good
Overall, the childminder has a clear vision for the knowledge and skills he wants children to develop while in his care. He checks children's progress carefully with his co-childminder and together they work closely with parents to help children catch up where any emerging delays are noted. However, there are some minor weaknesses in how the childminder supports children's early language during routines and in helping them learn about people in their wider communities.
p.2
The provision is good
The childminder and his co-childminder work closely with parents to support children's individual learning needs and to follow their home routines as closely as possible. Parents receive verbal updates about their children's progress to help them know what to focus on when supporting their children's development at home.

need to do better?
n The childminder has made improvements to hygiene practices and in promoting healthy eating since the last inspection. He has attended training and implemented what he has learned into his daily routines. The childminder reflects on his teaching practice and identifies strengths and areas for development. This informs his professional development plans to help him improve outcomes for children. n Children benefit from regular trips to toddler groups in the local community. They have access to a larger environment with additional equipment to promote their physical skills. Children play and interact with other children and adults, and this supports their social skills well. However, the childminder has not thought of ways to help children learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others in the wider society they live in. n Overall, the childminder supports young children's language skills well. He talks

to children as they play and uses simple words to encourage their vocabulary. However, he does not utilise all routines well to develop children's speech and language even further, such as during nappy changes and mealtimes. n Children have regular opportunities for fresh air and outdoor activities. 27 September 2022 garden, they use ride-on toys, the climbing frame and slide to help develop their physical skills. Young children become confident in their self-care skills. They independently get their drinks, feed themselves and are supported to take off and put on their own shoes. n Young children's behaviour is very good. The childminder and his co-childminder are good role models and are calm and gentle in their manner. Young children are supported well to play together cooperatively and to share the toys and resources. n The childminder supports young children's early mathematical skills as they play. When using stacking cups, for example, children learn concepts including 'round', 'star', 'tall' and 'on top'. n Young children show they are motivated and interested in the activities. They sit for long periods and concentrate. Children develop their hand-muscle skills as they use their hands to roll, pinch and break dough and use various tools to

flatten it and cut out shapes. Children listen to stories and show interest in the pictures. These activities support children's early literacy development.

Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder has a sound knowledge and understanding of child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures. He knows who to contact if he has concerns about children's welfare or if an allegation is made against him or his co- childminder. The childminder makes sure the environment is safe for the children and they are well supervised in the home and the garden. He helps children make safe choices, such as reminding them not to stand in the basket in case they slip over.
