p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children are exceptionally inquisitive and self-motivated in their learning. They are happy on arrival at the setting. They feel safe and separate well from their parents, and they are keen to explore the interesting experiences on offer in this well- defined learning environment. Children benefit hugely from many opportunities to develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. For example, they use various-sized scoops and containers for playing with autumn-coloured rice. They show delight and demonstrate high levels of skill to pour the rice into long cardboard tubes and then lift them to discover the piles they have created. Children experience awe and wonder as they enthusiastically participate in the wide range of invitations to play.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children are confident communicators, and they express themselves superbly. They make independent choices from the high-quality resources on offer to actively lead their own learning. Children behave impeccably and play cooperatively, making sure to include younger children in their games. They spend a prolonged period of time in the garden exploring a basket of items to find out which ones will roll down a long guttering slope. Children take turns and encourage younger children to have a go at choosing and rolling items. They demonstrate high levels of focus and attention and are highly engaged in this experience.

need to do better?

n The childminder has developed and successfully implements a creative and ambitious curriculum for all children in her care. They experience an excellent balance of trips and visits, both locally and further afield, as well as interesting and engaging learning opportunities in the childminder's home. For example, a firefighter and a paramedic recently visited to talk to the children about their job roles. As a result of the rich and diverse learning opportunities on offer and the childminder's excellent teaching, children make rapid progress across the seven areas of learning. n Children's independence and self-care skills are exceptional. They wash their hands competently and independently before snack. They also know to bring the step outside the bathroom and turn off the light when they have finished to save energy. All children use sharp, child-friendly knives to cut their fruit. They know that they need to move the knife 'forwards then backwards' to slice effectively.

p.2

need to do better?

Younger children are well supported by the childminder to develop these skills. Children's efforts and achievements are recognised and celebrated by the childminder. This consistently builds their self confidence and self-esteem. n Children develop excellent communication and language skills and make their thoughts and feelings known, using expressive language well. They delight in singing in a small group and enthusiastically choose items from the song bag

need to do better?

26 September 2022 that they are keen to show to the inspector. Children access a range of high- quality books and stories. They are eager to share a new autumn storybook with the childminder and talk excitedly about the hedgehogs in the book. They recall their prior knowledge of hedgehogs and tell the inspector, 'They come out at night to eat, and have spikes on their back.' n Children's physical health and development is extremely well promoted. Children access climbing, scooting, pedalling and balancing equipment in the garden. They build their strength and stamina by pushing, pulling and moving large toys and resources. For example, they know that the sand tray needs to be moved undercover, and they help the childminder to push it out of the rain. Children have the opportunity to mark make on a large scale and delight in using paint sticks on an easel as well as painting on clear film, using vertical movements.

p.2

need to do better?

n Parents are thrilled with the service on offer to their children. They comment on the warm and nurturing relationships with the childminder and how their children's unique personalities are recognised and celebrated. Parents are exceptionally appreciative of the support their whole family is offered and of how the childminder goes 'above and beyond' in her job to ensure children reach their potential. They are delighted with the strong progress that their children are making as a direct result of their learning opportunities at the childminder's setting.
