Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Since the last inspection, one child has moved out of the home after experiencing some difficulties. Staff worked alongside the child and a range of professionals, but leaders and managers accepted that they were no longer able to meet the child’s needs. The manager and staff ensured that the child had a positive move on from the home.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

A new child has since moved in to the home following a well-planned introduction. The child was able to meet and spend time getting to know staff before they moved in. This helped the child to make a positive transition to the home.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The home environment is spacious and welcoming. The child has been able to personalise their bedroom so that it reflects their interests and individual style. If any damage occurs in the home, it is promptly repaired so it remains a homely environment.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The child’s wishes and feelings are captured well in their records. These records are creative and have photographs that reflect all the positive experiences that the child has had since moving in to the home. The child regularly accesses these documents and adds to them. This meaningful participation helps the child to develop their emotional resilience and build positive memories of their childhood.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff support the child in school in line with their education plan. The child says that they would like to attend college. Staff praise and encourage the child, and they have high aspirations for them. This is helping the child to set goals and make plans for their future.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff take particular care to understand the child’s emotional needs. The manager has developed a positive and respectful relationship with the child’s family. The child is well supported to spend time with loved ones in accordance with their care plan. This helps the child to sustain life-long relationships with people who are important to them.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

The children who live in this home are well cared for. Staff encourage the child to spend time with their friends in the community. The child is making friendships with their peers. This helps to strengthen their confidence.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

The registered manager and staff have a good understanding of the needs of the child living in the home. The use of clear risk management plans and effective safe working practices promote the safety and well-being of the child. This means that potential risks are identified quickly. Inspection report for children’s home: 2616741 4 There have been no physical interventions since the last inspection. Staff understand the child’s emotions and recognise behaviours that can lead to unwanted actions. Staff use incentives to motivate the child to earn rewards, which promotes positive behaviour.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

There have not been any incidents of the child going missing from the home. Staff spoken to during the inspection showed a clear understanding of how to respond should this happen.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Safeguards are in place to protect children from dangers associated with social media. Staff encourage the child to talk to them if they come across anything they find offensive or upsetting on the internet. This helps the child to keep themselves safe online.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff know what actions to take when they believe a child may be at risk of harm. The manager ensures that any placing authority and family are informed if they believe the child is at risk. However, one serious incident occurred that was not notified to Ofsted. On this occasion, there were no repercussions and the issue was appropriately managed.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

The registered manager oversees a second home, but this does not negatively affect the time she spends in this setting. There is clear management oversight in place. Recruitment procedures are thorough and help to ensure that only suitable individuals work in the home. An effective induction programme is in place for new staff members.

The independent person visits the home in line with regulation. However, the child’s views are not consistently captured in the monthly reports. This means that any views expressed by children are not included in the independent person’s evaluation of how care is provided and managed in the home.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

The home’s statement of purpose does not have all the information required by regulation. This means that local authorities and families are unable to assure Inspection report for children’s home: 2616741 5 themselves that the home provides the care that they are looking for. The statement of purpose must also be submitted to the regulator.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

The children’s guide should set out the contact details of the children’s commissioner. This is so any child living there knows that they can make a complaint outside of the home’s existing processes. Inspection report for children’s home: 2616741 6
