p.1
The provision is inadequate
The childminder's safeguarding knowledge is weak. This does not adequately ensure children's safety should a concern or allegation need to be reported to the relevant local safeguarding partners. The childminder's curriculum does not meet the needs of the children or support them in making good progress in their learning and development. The childminder does not have suitable arrangements in place to monitor children while they sleep. This does not help to keep children safe.
p.2
The provision is inadequate
However, despite these weaknesses, children are happy. They settle quickly when they arrive at the childminder's setting. They have good attachments with her. The childminder is warm, kind and caring. Children use her for reassurance when needed. For example, she gives them cuddles when they feel nervous about new people in the home. Children are given choices in their day. For example, the childminder asks children what they would like to play with. Children giggle in delight as they play games with the childminder. They begin to learn about the different foods that keep us healthy as they play with a 'greedy gorilla'. Children talk excitedly about the flowers and cucumbers that they have grown. They eagerly claim, 'mine was the tallest'.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder's curriculum is not ambitious and is not designed to build on children's learning. The curriculum does not challenge and motivate children to learn. She does not take into consideration children's stage of learning and development. n The childminder assesses children's progress using relevant early years guidance to identify what children need to learn. However, the childminder does not use assessment effectively to ensure next steps are tailored precisely to help children make good progress. n Sleeping children are not regularly checked on. The childminder demonstrates some knowledge of the importance of regularly monitoring sleeping babies and the possible risks when they are sleeping. However, she does not apply this to other young children. They often sleep upstairs, without being checked. The childminder is usually downstairs where it is hard to hear sleeping children. This does not ensure their safety.
p.2
need to do better?
n The childminder has reflected on her practice since the last inspection. She has undertaken some training to develop her knowledge. However, her understanding of the local safeguarding partner processes is still not embedded. n Children are introduced to new words as they play. For example, as they play a 'shopping' game, the childminder introduces the word 'asparagus'. However, children's communication skills are not fully supported. For example, the childminder does not repeat words back clearly so that children hear the correct

20 September 2022 pronunciation of sounds. n At times, children struggle to make themselves heard and understood by the childminder. This leads to children becoming disengaged as they are unable to share their thoughts and feelings. n The childminder has implemented a written progress check between the ages of two and three. This focuses on what children can do and very broadly what are they are working on next, such as communication. The childminder shares this information with parents. n Children are encouraged to give things a go for themselves first. For example, the childminder encourages children to select the resources they need, such as more pasta for their art. This helps to increase independence in their play. This demonstrates that the childminder has made some positive changes since the last inspection. n The childminder understands that some children may have special educational needs and/or disabilities. She works with parents to ensure that children have

these needs met. For example, she adapts her provision and supports children as they use different equipment for eating and drinking. n Parents speak highly of the childminder. They comment on how much their children enjoy attending. Parents highlight the communication book as a good example of working in partnership together. The book allows information to be shared about the child's day, both at home and at the childminder's setting.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The childminder recognises the basic signs and symptoms that may indicate a child is at risk from harm. However, although it was raised at the last inspection, she has not yet embedded her knowledge about how to make referrals to local safeguarding partners (LSP) in line with their processes. The childminder is unsure about the role of the local authority designated officer (LADO). She demonstrates a poor understanding of how to report allegations against herself or a member of her household to LADO in line with LSP processes. The childminder does not show a secure knowledge of things that need to be notified to Ofsted, such as if there are changes to her health.
