p.1

The provision is good

Children are happy and secure in this homely setting. They develop a wonderful, secure attachment with the childminder. Her interactions with them are warm and caring. This helps children to feel settled and safe in the childminder's care. The childminder works hard to support children in their personal, social and emotional development. This includes children who find it difficult to settle; they receive effective support, reassurance and encouragement from her.

p.2

The provision is good

Children behave well as they take turns to share resources and play cooperatively. The childminder is a positive role model who encourages good behaviour and courtesy for others. For example, she helps children to understand what is expected of them, and they follow instructions well. Children are confident around the childminder, knowing she is close by. She uses consistent praise and encouragement to boost children's self-esteem and confidence.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder arranges her home effectively. Children benefit from a large, dedicated area of the childminder's home that has a wide range of resources. Children begin to develop good levels of independence. For example, they make choices about their learning and select resources for themselves. The childminder knows children well. She knows children's interests and plans activities based on these, to extend children's learning further.

n The childminder is exceptionally knowledgeable about her children and their next steps in learning and development. She has developed an ambitious educational programme for the children. The childminder gathers useful information when children start at her setting. She monitors progress and can identify any emerging concerns in their learning. Children take part in activities that build on their interests. This helps ensure that children make the best possible progress. n The childminder provides good opportunities for children to learn about the world around them. They regularly go out into the local community, visiting interesting places, such as woodlands, parks and castles. Well-planned outings allow children to have real-life experiences, such as learning about animals during visits to the family farm. n The well-qualified childminder is committed to her ongoing professional development. To build on her knowledge and benefit the children, the

Younger children's early communication skills are well supported. The childminder skilfully introduces children to new words and concepts as they play and explore. For example, she uses animal props to help to deepen the children's understanding of the words that they are using. The childminder also ensures that she builds silence into her own communication, giving the children appropriate time to respond. n Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents speak positively about the childminder and their children's experiences at the setting. The childminder shares her observations of children's learning with parents. She keeps parents

well-informed of children's progress. However, she does not maximise opportunities to help parents to build on their children's learning at home. n The childminder knows and understands the benefits of outdoor play to support children's physical and emotional well-being. The garden area has a large range of resources to keep children occupied. Ride-on toys support the development of large-muscle skills. Water and sand play provide sensory experiences for younger children to explore. The garden is safe, child friendly and a place where children love to be. n Mathematics is used throughout the day. The childminder uses opportunities to extend children's mathematical understanding. For example, children are encouraged to count during activities and to explore and understand size, quantity and positional language. Children gain a good understanding of early mathematical concepts.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has good knowledge and understanding of how to safeguard children effectively in her care. She understands wider aspects of safeguarding. This includes how to identify possible indicators that families are exposed to extreme views and behaviours. The childminder completes relevant training in safeguarding and is aware of her role and responsibilities. She can talk with confidence about what she would do in a range of scenarios. She is aware of the procedures to follow if an allegation is made against herself or a family member. Children are well supervised. The childminder develops children's awareness of staying safe.
