This provision does not meet requirements

n The childminder has an understanding of risk assessments and how to ensure children's safety. However, she has failed to implement these to ensure her premises remain safe and secure. For example, the garden is cluttered and has several hazards, such as stacking of unwanted toys and furniture. These stacked items could cause injury to children should they fall. Also, the cleanliness in areas such as the kitchen and toilet is not robust. This places a higher risk of the spreading of infection. n The childminder has not ensured that her documentation is fully compliant. For example, she has not renewed her public liability insurance. n The childminder has an understanding of some aspects of safeguarding and child protection. For example, she understands the 'Prevent' duty and how to recognise when a child could be at risk of abuse. She knows what action she must take should she need to refer a welfare concern to her local authority.

n The childminder's safeguarding policy, however, is not up to date and in line with Southampton's local safeguarding children partnership. She has a weak knowledge of her responsibilities in the event of an allegation being made against her, or a household member. This does not ensure that allegations would be referred appropriately to safeguard children. n The childminder has a good knowledge of how to support children's learning and development. She works closely with parents to understand their children's likes and dislikes and milestones they have reached. She uses this as a starting point for her planning. The childminder describes how she observes and assesses children's development to ensure they make good progress. n The childminder supports children with special educational needs and/or disabilities to gain assistance from other professionals. She shares information well. n The childminder understands the importance of celebrating the uniqueness of all

children. She places a strong focus on understanding children's cultures and beliefs and includes these in her planning to encourage learning for all. n The childminder describes how she supports children to manage their behaviour. She uses words to describe children's emotions and includes them in thinking about how situations can be resolved. This supports children to learn to manage conflicts themselves. n The childminder knows how to promote children's independence. She understands the importance of encouraging children to do things for themselves, such as unzipping their coats and zipping them up. She shares observations with parents to encourage them to promote this at home too.

16 September 2022 There were no children in the early years age range present when this inspection took place. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with those who care for the children and an inspection of the premises, equipment and relevant documentation. Where there are no early years children present, no judgement is made on the quality of the early years provision as there is no reliable evidence on which to assess its impact on children. The report states whether the provider continues to meet the requirements of registration.
