The provision requires improvement
The quality of education that children receive varies across the nursery. Children's interests are not always used effectively by the staff to plan exciting, spontaneous or adult-led activities to enable children to fully explore their ideas. Therefore, some younger children occasionally wander around without purpose to their play. Children are encouraged to independently select resources and activities. However, rigid routines sometimes interrupt children's enjoyment and involvement. Furthermore, on occasions, more-experienced staff working with younger children become preoccupied with completing daily routines, such as tidying away the resources. This distracts from the quality of teaching provided and leaves less- experienced staff struggling to teach and support the children in their care.

The provision requires improvement
Nevertheless, children demonstrate that they are settled and happy at the nursery. Older children use language enthusiastically to narrate imaginative stories about dinosaurs and describe their lavender-scented dough creations. They count with growing confidence, differentiate between large and small dinosaurs, and some older children can write their names. Older children explore what happens when different coloured paints are mixed together. They enjoy painting colourful rainbow pictures. Younger children have opportunities to develop their hand-to-eye coordination as they thread pasta onto pipe cleaners and fill and pour water from one container to another. They are introduced to some songs and rhymes as they play and enjoy completing the associated actions to accompany the songs.

need to do better?
n The provider and manager continue to receive ongoing support and advice from the local authority. They demonstrate a willingness to make further improvements to enhance the quality of care and education provided for the children. This includes the planned recruitment of further qualified staff and continuing the development of staff's knowledge and skills. n The provider and manager have taken appropriate steps to meet the actions raised at the last inspection. For example, staff now demonstrate a good understanding of the provision's safeguarding policy and procedures. Additionally, changes have been made to the curriculum. This includes the training of staff to enhance their teaching skills and changes to the room layouts. However, at the time of the inspection, these changes had not been fully embedded into practice across the whole nursery. n Overall, the quality of teaching is variable. This includes staff's understanding of

the revised curriculum, including its implementation. Staff do not always spontaneously build on what children know and can already do as they play. Additionally, when staff ask children questions, they do not always give them time to think and respond before answering the question for them. Staff working

need to do better?
30 August 2022 with younger children also often repeat the same question many times, such as 'What colour is this?' This results in the question becoming meaningless to the children. n Rigid routines sometimes interrupt children's involvement in the activities they are enjoying. Staff deployment is not always effective in continuing to support younger children in their learning. n The manager and the staff form positive relationships with parents. Parents comment positively about the nursery. They receive daily verbal feedback, termly updates about their child's progress and regular newsletters. However, management has not ensured that staff consistently complete the required written progress checks for children aged between two and three years. This is a legal requirement. n Staff are caring towards the children. These positive interactions help children to form attachments and supports their emotional well-being. Children approach

staff for reassurance or to ask for things they need. From a young age, children are encouraged to develop their self-care skills and sense of responsibility. For example, children learn how to use cutlery appropriately to feed themselves. Older children enjoy being the 'helper of the day'. n Staff support children to manage their behaviour. Rules and boundaries are shared with children from a young age. Children across the nursery are encouraged to respect and be kind to one another, to take their turn and share resources. They receive praise for their achievements and efforts, which supports their self-esteem.
p.3
Safeguarding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.
p.3
Safeguarding
The manager and staff have undertaken child protection training to broaden their safeguarding knowledge and skills. They demonstrate a good understanding of the signs of abuse, including wider safeguarding issues, such as radicalisation. The manager and staff understand the importance of making a swift referral to the relevant agencies if they have a concern about a child in their care. Additionally, they know what to do in the event of an allegation being made against them. The manager follows appropriate recruitment and induction procedures. Checks are completed to ensure all staff working with the children are suitable. The premises are secure and daily risk assessments are completed to ensure the children are cared for in a safe environment.
