The provision is good

Young children are very happy and settled in the childminder's care. They demonstrate they feel at home and move confidently around the well-organised rooms. Young children independently access a wide range of age-appropriate resources. They concentrate as they push buttons on toys to make them light up and make noise. Young children develop hand-to-eye coordination. They build small towers with blocks and smile at the childminder as they knock them down. Children have lots of opportunities for fresh air and exercise. They lead their own learning and point to the door when they want to go outside to play. Young children listen attentively and follow the childminder's instructions. They enthusiastically help the childminder to find their outdoor clothes and shoes. Young children have fun as they ride on wheeled toys. They fill and empty containers with natural resources as they explore the outdoor play kitchen. The childminder sits

The provision is good

Children receive lots of cuddles from the childminder throughout the day. This effectively supports their emotional well-being. Young children are beginning to understand boundaries and are learning to share and take turns. The childminder gently reminds them to use their 'kind hands' as they play alongside their friends. Young children sleep peacefully in comfortable surroundings. The childminder regularly checks on them to ensure they are safe and well.

n The childminder is caring and kind. Her home is very clean and organised. The knowledgeable childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She makes regular assessments of what children know and can do and uses this information to plan what they need to learn next. Children make good progress in their learning. n The childminder places a strong focus on supporting children's communication and language skills. She talks to them throughout the day. Young children have fun as they chase bubbles. The childminder introduces the word 'pop' and encourages them to repeat this word. Young children sit comfortably on the floor with the childminder. They excitedly turn the pages in books. The childminder points to the pictures and uses single words and associative sounds to identify the different objects children see. This supports children's emerging speech. n Good settling-in procedures ensure children are ready for the move from home

7 September 2022 family from the start. The childminder seeks a range of information from parents during these settling-in sessions to support her to plan for children's learning from the very beginning. n The childminder has good relationships with parents. She speaks to them at drop-off and collection times and uses digital messages to send photos of children's achievements during the day. Although the childminder shares information with parents about children's learning, it is not always clear or precise enough to support parents to continue or extend children's learning at home. That said, parents are highly complimentary about the childminder and the service she provides. They comment on her kind nature and how happy their children are in her care. Parents value the wide range of experiences their children enjoy. n The childminder supports children's good health. She provides children with healthy and nutritious meals and snacks. The childminder is attentive and gentle

when attending to children's personal care. Hygiene practice is good. Children learn to wash their hands before eating and when returning inside from outdoor play. They use individual towels after washing their hands. This helps to prevent the spread of germs. n The childminder regularly takes children out for walks in the local community. They visit the shops, play in the park and attend sessions at toddler groups. These experiences help children to meet with larger groups of children and develop confidence in social situations. However, the childminder is yet to consistently provide children with a wide enough range of experiences to fully support their understanding of diversity in the world around them. n The childminder is keen to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. She uses social media sites and online forums to discuss best practice and changes to legislation. The childminder keeps her mandatory training up to date. She

regularly reads articles about child development to inform her practice.

She is aware of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse, and knows what to do and who to contact if she has a concern about a child's welfare.
