p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children excel in this outstanding childminding provision. The childminder's well- developed curriculum plans help children to be successful learners in all areas of their development. The childminder accurately focuses on some areas of the curriculum in greater detail to help swiftly close gaps in children's learning, such as those attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. The curriculum is ambitious for all children. Those children who attend with speech and language delay get the support they need from the childminder, while waiting for interventions from other agencies. The childminder's curriculum is so successful that it helps children to master skills and develop outstanding knowledge and skills in readiness for starting at school and pre-school. Before children start pre-school at three years old, they can count up to 20 and describe quantities.

The provision is outstanding

Children successfully learn to regulate their own behaviours through the teaching and role modelling of the childminder. Children can play cooperatively together and use words to successfully describe their recognised feelings. The childminder has a strong passion for promoting equality and diversity in her setting to recognise the different faiths and beliefs of children who attend. She involves parents in her curriculum so children can learn about different festivals celebrated by families and other community members.

n The childminder expertly plans the learning environment to implement her ambitious curriculum and to foster children's interests. Through the learning environment, the childminder skilfully supports children to know more and remember more. For example, through her strong focus on promoting children's communication, language and literacy skills, the childminder places books in all areas of the environment. Children use the non-fiction train books as part of their imaginative play with toy trains. Supported by the childminder, they learn about different types of trains, such as freight trains. Children are inspired by their learning from books and they gain a varied vocabulary. n The childminder has a very strong focus on helping children to gain a breadth of essential knowledge and skills through experiences that provide them with a sense of awe and wonder. This approach helps children to experience learning in

the childminder's own home and again through wider experiences in the community. For instance, to build on children's learning of vehicles, the childminder takes children out to use different forms of transport, such as trams and trains. Children talk about these experiences with great excitement, recalling their learning of how trains and trams move. n The childminder has highly robust systems in place for the supervision of her assistants. She has high expectations for her assistants' practice and standards

25 August 2022 of teaching. Recently, the childminder has provided coaching to her assistant and supports her to further her qualifications. The assistant is now highly skilled in her interactions with children, such as using books to promote deep discussion with children. n The childminder provides a really rich range of experiences to promote children's healthy lifestyles. These build on everyday practices, such as handwashing. The childminder is keen for children to understand about seasonal foods, how food is grown and the life cycle of produce. This is enhanced further through seasonal visits to a local farm to harvest produce. This also gives children an outstanding knowledge of the world. Children know when different produce grows and when it needs to be planted, for example, pumpkin seeds are planted in spring to harvest in autumn. Children also learn how to care for plants and how to preserve water in times of drought. They know ways to reduce water use, such

as turning taps off quickly after handwashing. n The childminder has an exceptional understanding of the different ways to communicate with children. One of the key methods she uses is music and rhythm. This has a superbly positive impact on children because through repetition of rhymes and beats, they can repeat words and the sounds of songs. The childminder delivers truly inspirational music sessions. She starts off by using a book to sing a song that children join in with, singing 'The Whales on the Bus'. The childminder then introduces the concepts of fast and slow while children use instruments with her to follow beats. This then moves on to using technology devices safely to play music that children move their whole bodies to, and they hum along to help develop their mouth-muscle strength. This has an excellent impact on children's learning and shows their absolute delight in learning when they smile, create sounds and have fun.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

Children feel safe. The childminder is highly vigilant in ensuring children's safety and welfare. She takes a proactive approach to ensuring she and her assistants have an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding matters, including radicalisation and extremism. The childminder can identify abuse and neglect. She understands the local procedures to follow and support services available to help families receive the support they need. The childminder manages safeguarding in her setting well and implements effective procedures, including procedures to respond to allegations or low-level concerns about her assistants and household members. The curriculum for safeguarding benefits children greatly. For example, children learn who to report to if they feel unsafe, such as when using technology devices.

Inspection activities

n This was the first routine inspection the provider received since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The inspector discussed the impact of the pandemic with the provider and has taken that into account in their evaluation of the provider. n The childminder showed the inspector the premises and discussed how they ensure it is safe and suitable, especially because the childminder has moved home since her last inspection. n The childminder and the inspector discussed how the childminder organises their early years provision, including the aims and rationale for their curriculum. n The inspector joined children's play and viewed the written feedback of parents. He considered their views during the inspection. n The inspector observed the quality of education being provided, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact that this was having on children's learning. He evaluated an activity with the childminder.
