p.1

The provision is outstanding

Children explore a purposeful and ambitious curriculum that promotes their independent thinking and physical abilities. They learn about numbers and counting through games that they play. Throughout the day, children's learning deepens and expands. When they move to the garden, they use a playhouse to have a story time, exploring characters and using new words. Children sit and make 'rainbow soup' using dough. They express their opinions, which are highly valued by the childminder. She fills children's days with meaningful language and conversation. Children are confident talkers who want to share what they know with everyone around them.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

The childminder's confident knowledge of child development ensures that all children make rapid progress in their learning. The childminder provides highly effective interactions through play. Children are confident to make choices in their learning and lead their own play. The childminder skilfully builds on what children already know. For example, children play in a tent pretending to camp while the childminder skilfully adapts the activity and introduces mathematical concepts.

p.2

The provision is outstanding

Children's behaviour is excellent. The childminder is clear about her expectations for children to be kind and to share. Children show these good social skills in abundance. When playing with dough, children share it out, taking pieces from their supply to give to the childminder and commenting on who has the bigger piece.

n Children develop a love of stories with the childminder as she reads to them throughout the day. They are provided with a very good range of age- appropriate texts which they can independently access, and children already have their favourite books. The childminder extends their curiosity in print by visiting the library once a week, which children excitedly tell visitors about. Children also act out stories with props to support this. n The childminder plans exceptional activities to make sure that everyone can take part and, consequently, learn from each other. She uses the interests of all children to initiate new learning experiences. For example, children visit an airfield on the bus following a child's interest in transport. n Children gain a deep understanding of the world around them. They learn about lots of different festivals celebrated by different cultures. The childminder uses different multicultural resources to support children's understanding of the wider

Children sit and discuss whether a 'troll' could be a boy or girl while the childminder provokes thought, encouraging children to problem-solve. n Older children are very well prepared for their move on to school. The childminder skilfully teaches children how to be independent and complete tasks for themselves. They persevere as they try to pull lids off of dough pots, demonstrate a can-do approach to tasks and show resilience when cutting up their own snack. Children count wooden numbers and show the correct numeral. The childminder then encourages further counting on fingers, which builds on children's existing knowledge. n Parents are very complimentary about the care and education the childminder provides for their children. They particularly praise the wide range of activities she offers both indoors and outdoors, including the places of interest that she

takes the children to. Parents comment that their children have 'excelled in their reading and speech', that the childminder knows their children's strengths and interests and that their children feel 'in control of their learning'. n The childminder carries out regular training to refresh her knowledge and skills and remain up to date with any changes. She meticulously reviews her curriculum and the provision for children, making ongoing and effective improvements to the indoor and outdoor environments.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder has a detailed and very broad knowledge of how to keep children safe, including from wider risks of harm, such as those associated with the 'Prevent' duty. She can confidently identify signs and symptoms that may be a cause for concern and is able to explain in great depth how and where to report this information. The childminder demonstrates an excellent understanding of how to provide a safe indoor and outdoor environment for children to play. This includes actively supporting the children to learn how to keep themselves safe during activities with risk.
