Overall effectiveness Inadequate

The quality of education Inadequate Behaviour and attitudes Inadequate Personal development Inadequate Leadership and management Inadequate Overall effectiveness at previous inspection Met

p.1

The provision is inadequate

Risk assessment procedures are weak. The childminder does not identify or manage risks to children's safety or security. She does not ensure the premises are secure or supervise children effectively to keep them safe. The childminder has failed to keep Ofsted up to date regarding household members living on the premises to enable suitability checks to be completed. As a result, children are at risk of harm.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not take the necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection. She does not follow suitable handwashing procedures or encourage children to do so. She does not ensure that nappy changing facilities are appropriately disinfected or that children's toys are hygienic and clean.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder has a poor understanding of how children learn. She does not deliver a broad and balanced curriculum to ensure children benefit from meaningful learning experiences. She does not plan appropriate next steps or organise activities to develop children's learning. The childminder does not use her interactions to challenge children or build on what they already know and can do. For example, she frequently asks questions about colours and numbers that children already know. Children do not make good progress and are not inspired or motivated to learn.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The childminder does not use assessment effectively. Progress checks at age two are not fully completed and do not provide an accurate snapshot of children's learning. The childminder does not know enough about the children in her care to meet their care or learning needs, particularly those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). She does not proactively seek out relevant information from other professionals who work with children to inform her practice and teaching. This hinders children's learning and development.

p.2

need to do better?

n The childminder does not model language well or pronounce words correctly. For example, she says 'ta' for thank you. Children do not learn new vocabulary or develop their communication and language skills. n Behaviour is not managed well. The childminder is kind and caring and responds when children are upset. However, she does not have a good understanding of children's individual needs or the necessary skills to support them. This hinders their social and emotional development and their feelings of safety and security. n The available resources are limited and do not meet the children's needs. This means that children cannot follow their interests, explore independently or make choices in their play. Only incidental learning takes place and children are not

19 July 2022 well prepared for their next stage in education or school. n The childminder demonstrates limited knowledge of how to support children with SEND. This means that children who require additional support are at a significant risk of falling behind. n Children visit playgroups daily to play with other children. The childminder also takes children on visits to local farms and parks to explore the community. n Parents say they are kept updated with some aspects of their children's learning, such as what they have been doing during their time with the childminder. n The childminder's poor interactions with children results in them quickly losing focus. For example, when children use a play phone to make a 'call' to the childminder, she does not respond enthusiastically and they do not persevere. This does not promote children's self-confidence or self-esteem. n Children do not have access to a wide variety of physical active play, indoors or

outdoors. They are not able to move energetically or develop their strength, balance or coordination. This has a negative impact on children's well-being and does not promote a healthy lifestyle. n The childminder ensures children keep safe in the sun. She makes sure that children wear sun cream and a sun hat and keeps them inside when it is very hot. n The childminder undertakes training, but she does not use this knowledge to make positive changes to her practice. For example, she has undertaken training in how children explore the world. However, she does not provide opportunities for children to freely explore or investigate.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

The childminder's risk assessment procedures do not promote the welfare of children. She does not ensure that the setting is safe and secure or that children are constantly supervised. This puts children at risk of harm. The childminder has a good understanding of the signs and symptoms that might indicate that a child is at risk of abuse and how to report potential concerns.
