n The children show a fantastic love and appreciation of books. Children independently select books from the childminder's library. The childminder reads the books with great enthusiasm, transporting the children to a world of dinosaurs as she reads. The childminder brings the story to life as she pretends that the dinosaur's sharp teeth 'chomp' at her fingers. Children are in awe and fascination and are totally absorbed throughout the entire story. n Children speak with increasing fluency and competency. The childminder asks the children lots of open-ended questions. This encourages the children to communicate using a wide range of vocabulary. If children mispronounce words, the childminder repeats the sentence back to the children and models the correct pronunciation. The childminder provides a language-rich environment.
