p.1

The provision is inadequate

Children's individual needs are not met. Breaches of the safeguarding and welfare requirements have a significant impact on children's safety, learning and development. Some children show poor self-control and a lack of respect for others, leading to children not feeling safe and secure. There are times when children are not supervised well enough to prevent behavioural incidents that lead to them receiving minor injuries.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

The expectations that the childminder has for children's learning and development are not achieved because of poor planning and implementation of the curriculum. Activities do not consistently build on what children know and can do. Despite this, children listen attentively to stories the childminder chooses and join in with the parts they know.

p.2

The provision is inadequate

Older children are motivated to explore the resources, but less-confident children are not encouraged to engage in purposeful play. They do not develop skills across all areas of learning. Younger children spend considerable amounts of time silently watching the older children playing. They are not supported to engage in activities or develop their language and social skills further. Despite this, older children confidently create their own physical challenges. During the inspection, they rode two-wheeled bikes with control and confidently used swings and slides.

p.2

need to do better?

n There are breaches of ratio requirements. The childminder understands the ratio requirements but does not adhere to them. There are times when she intentionally cares for five children in the early years, whose individual needs are not met. n Breaches of the safeguarding requirements have a significant impact on the safety, well-being and personal development of the children. The childminder does not identify and respond to any safety risks. During the inspection, the childminder left children unsupervised for a short time when they were eating. She did not witness them eat food they had dropped on the floor. In addition, she did not see accidents that occurred in the garden and in the playroom. n The childminder does not demonstrate the capacity to improve the quality of education and care without support. She has completed safeguarding training, but has not sought any other training to help her improve her understanding of

her role and responsibilities, including how to support children's learning. This has a significant impact on children's progress. n The childminder does not understand how to plan and implement an ambitious curriculum. She has a weak understanding of the areas of learning and her role in supporting children's developmental progress. Children spend most of the

She did not use children's interests to challenge and extend their learning and development. Younger children played repetitively with the same resources and were not motivated to learn. The childminder does not support them to develop all the skills they need other than some self-care skills. n Despite the childminder's attempts to improve how she manages the children's behaviour, this is not consistently successful. Children continue to hurt and injure others. n The childminder talks aloud about what children do and asks them some open questions. However, she does not consistently interact in a way that supports younger children to develop the confidence to talk. Children do not receive enough encouragement to develop their vocabulary or to share what they know

and understand. n Parents state they are happy with their children's care and learning, particularly in relation to how the childminder has developed their children's confidence and social skills following the COVID-19 pandemic. n To provide continuity, the childminder communicates with pre-schools attended by the children to share information about their individual needs.

p.3

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective.

p.3

Safeguarding

These are breaches of requirements that present risks to children's health and safety. The childminder does not have effective arrangements to keep children safe. She has taken some action to improve her understanding of child protection. The childminder has recently completed training that has helped her to be aware of the appropriate action to take if she has concerns about the welfare of a child. However, the weaknesses in her supervision have resulted in children having accidents and eating food that they have dropped on the floor. This compromises children's health and safety.

p.3

Safeguarding

Since the last inspection, the childminder has cleared the routes she would use in the event of an emergency evacuation of her home. However, she does not have a good understanding of how to use risk assessments to reduce hazards to keep children safe. For example, during the inspection, the childminder did not recognise the risk posed to children by furniture positioned at the bottom of the slide. She required prompting to clear the area to prevent any accidents or injuries to the children.
